Thoughts on Mr Slim + Competitors
Greetings all,
I am a student at Georgia Institute of Technology doing a class project concerning the Mr Slim line of AC products.
If anyone is willing to help me I would greatly appreciate people posting their experiences in this thread.
The kinds of information I am looking for is:
Have you used Mr Slim and been happy/unhappy with it? Why or why not?
What kinds of installations have you used it for?
Have you considered using Mr Slim? Why did you choose not to use it?
What alternative products did you consider/use instead?
Thanks in advance for your responses,
Jon

Great Q Jon....
My only reasoning for going with Mr Slim and never even checking the other guys out is I wanted the japanese innovator. That meant either Mitsu or Sony. Kinda like comparing a Toyota to a Kia [the korean imitator]. The Japanese company will always outperform them. I stay with mitsu because they just keep getting better..... and the prices havent gone up much for the better product. My doctor gave me six months to live, but when I couldn't pay the bill he gave me six months more.

Troubleshooting these things is a PAIN IN THE BUTT. They are great units but as far as diagnostics, they stink. I have to call the techline one day here to verify that the one in my place has a bad board. No way to tell that I know of.
(ices up after the electronic exp valve). Pulse signals to the valve are impossible to check, arent they?)

I have had mine for 5 years, and I run the heat pump in very cold temps, even at 10 degrees outside I get a 30 degree rise. It has been a very good unit (until now), the unit draws around 5 amps from the compressor, unreal. (I have the inverter series).

Chad/Spotts - would you get one again? What kind of room did you use it for - an add-on?

1) Yes, Happy with it. Easy to troubleshoot, most parts are easy to replace. Though if you get stuck with one of those hidden parts you'll hate the rest of your day. The other downsize is one thats general across the board they use to much plastic and clips and if your not patient i've cracked a few covers.
2) Resi, small comercial, server room
3) Last I checked they are a bit more expensive then fujitsu and resi customers might be more inclined to go with them

Green jumper, can you explain to me how to diagnose why the electronic exp valve isnt working. Im pretty sure its the board but ... I ohmed out the exp valve (has 6 wires). like I was told via mr slim. They all had 55 ohms which is what they said it should. I just dont feel like going though the bs of getting a tech online right now.
