    New Chiller Installation

We are considering replacing two 30-year old McQuay centrifugal chillers and a closed loop cooling tower with three 80 ton Multistack chillers with MagLev compressors, a flat plate heat exchanger and an open cooling tower.

Any insights anyone can give me on the Multistack/MagLev/flat plate/open cooling tower combo?...or a better way to go?

How about some five gallon pails full of ice and some floor fans . Anything has got to be better than Multi crap . And sure as S&$t you will need the ice and floor fans coz it will always be breakin down . JMHO

    Don't.

At the very least use a closed loop with that brand.

It will be closed loop, the heat exchanger will be open to the tower, having said that,I DESPISE MULTICRAP CHILLERS.

make sure you use the correct grade of CRISCO when you go to slide the chiller onto the 4" square rails, and have fun building the 3 phase copper feeder lines(460 volts) thats tooooo close and exposed for a humid machine room for me.then make sure those panels clip on right so the insulator can stand on them to reach the overhead chiller lines

Why not just use a closed tower again? Either way I'm not a fan of multistack. I have a 500 ton capacity unit in my plant with 5 100 ton screws. Lots of issues. We also have an open tower, no heat exchanger, and cleaning these things is fun. As far as your system goes, who makes those MAG/LEV units? Is it Danfoss?
