Oh my, some opinionated persons huh?

Well, I don't know how much time some of you have spend on a commercial roofs but in some cases a walk back to the truck can cost 20 minutes. I normally have a Gerber, a pair WR-5 ViceGrips and a small flash lite. All items have saved me daily. Normally I'll go check a unit prior to hauling 40 pounds of tools to it. I do own two homes and a 34' boat so yep I guess I qualify as a HO and DIY? I guess that's true too, 'cause if it's broke I can fix it!

Diceman I do understand your opinion but at 53 years of age I've learned to work Smarter not harder. If one of my multipurpose pocket tools saves me time and gets me out of a jam, I'm happy.

I almost forgot. I keep several 4 in 1 screwdrivers around. Where they've saved me before the using the shaft as a nut driver. I think I have one Stainless Steel that came from West Marine.

Well I'm 4 years older than you and when I go on a roof I take my hand tools, everything I need to at least diagnose a unit is in there.
A tool pouch that really isn't that heavy.

I can see walking around with a leatherman on your belt....... but on a service call I take my real tools. I been on more commercial roofs than I can remember and it does suck to haul your ass back to the truck................which is why I take my hand tools in the first place.
I have found multi tools just don't fit the need of normal, single purpose tools.

I love my klein tools I tell everyone at work if it aint klein it aint mine. But that's bs now..the klein 1000000 in one or whatever the hell it is is great, but Lenox makes a good multidriver too. As someone else said it's always a good idea to have the ONE right tool. But Multitools are convenient for mostly low torque applications..that's my opinion anyway.

On a normal residential call I start out with a meter bag on my belt, a set of klein needle nose (with wire strippers), channel locks, small crescent, 1/4inch nut and 5/16 phillips and flat blade and gauges and flashlight. Sounds like a lot but it all fits in my back pocket amazingly. May not be a good habit but it's one I formed and for most light duty applications that gets the job done.

I never used a 6n1 and always carried a half dozen klein screwdrivers until one day working on a roof i found this el cheapo orange handle screwdriver. I've used it everyday after that for about 15 years now.

I like the Klein 11 in 1 myself, I threw that lenox POS off a roof a while back after losing the newly purchased replacement bits.

I bought this 11in1 just because. It was like one better than 10in1. I truly did.

I would only buy the top manufactures klein, irwin, lenox, but the problem youll have is losing the bits or at least i do. But i still carry one. get you a flashlight holster and carry it on your belt be amazed how much time it will save you !

I just scored a GreatNeck 4 in 1 screw-stick at the Black & Decker Outlet for $3.99. They also had drill/Nut driver assortments for nuts (1/4", 5/16" and 3/8") for .78 and three double ended drill/drivers (+ & -) for .78. Hey I splurged and got two each of the 78 cent deals. I was happier over the Black & Decker Drill/Nut drivers sets for .78 than the 4 in 1. The main reason I stopped by the outlet store was to see if they had any Dewalt... Not a one. They had some smokin' deals on Cheap A@@ FireStorm's!

I'm looking for a 13 in 1... then, then all I'll need is a flash light!

I like the Lutz 6 in 1 it's cheap dependable and disposable. It doesn't hold up well to abuse.

From what I have seen on other trade boards, people are really complaining about the Klein 11 in 1 lately. It is kind of shocking to me, because it was by far and away the most used and loved multi type screw driver on the market. I don't know if they moved their manufacturing overseas or what.

I haven't had good luck with Klein. The only reason I bought it was it was the only multi screwdriver the parts house had and I lost the last one. I have had the flat head snap off a couple of times trying to loosen the lugs on contactors.

My personal fav is Husky. You can beat on those things and they don't break. And they have a lifetime warranty.

I like just having an apprentice unscrew it. They're always so eager to do it anyway. They are the new blood of this industry that has grown leaps and bounds since the 60's. Don't like the Taylor law that says we can't strike because we work in powerplants and hospitals. Big AFL-CIO failure me thinks. But what the hell, every1 is gonna be happy now in the union to have our healthcare watereddown to share with everyone else. Isn't that what it's about. One big happy government family. Ask any russian engineer who works in the power plants here in the USA. They'll tell you the truth. Why you think they came here? Funny how we got these clowns now who want to change everything now after 40 years of them experimenting with socialism all throughout the different government programs that have done no imrovements on society, but rather increased teenage pregnancy rates and crime rates and drug addiction and everything else that has corrupted society. I still stand by my Klein 11in1. But I am sad that my last blue Vaco reversible screwdriver broke. It was cold and stupid me used it to pry an oil sump cover plate. The blue handle just shattered. Can't remember when they stopped making those.
