Use a Debit Card
I kicked the CC companies to the curb also, they are evil
Now if they would just stop calling lol
After having repeat problems with stolen credit card id, I had my limit reduced to $750. I was going to go on a trip and found out it was actually at $400. After dozens of phone calls, explaining that it was 'I' that asked for the limit, they reinstated me at $1000 and 29% interest The flight was too expensive by then. I told them what they could do with their card, cut it up and sent it back. Was going to order uniforms off the net, dawned on me I have no card. What do you do when you have no C card. BTW I never missed a payment, always paid off balance quickly. I didn't even have a C card till I was into my Thirties.

Yep, debit card. I have one for biz and personal. If I ain't got the cash I don't buy it....
No reserve. No retreat. No regrets.

No credit card, ATM card, cell phone. . .
I run my business on CC's, I have over 400K worth of credit. I never miss a payment and we pay the balances every month. We get 3% to 5% cash back each month and by paying our accounts by CC we extend out another 30 days. That puts our ready cash drawing interest for up to 50 days more than paying up front.
We monitor or credit and match up every ticket, we have never had a problem and never had the numbers stolen. I do not know anyone that has ever had their identity or credit stolen.
Nah, I'm in MD, not SC.
All these seductive things give you convenience and speed, at a hidden cost.
Some of these guys hold up the line and then "apologize" for holding up the line.
You're then supposed to say,
"Today you can inconsiderately hold up many people for no good reason but puh-leeze do not add insult to injury by apologizing for it."
My wife wants to get rid of the debit card and go strictly to a bank card, one without the visa logo to only be used at ATM's. I know it is all about being responsible but it is so easy to have that debit card and just swipe it. We are trying to go to cash only and have that on us to use during the week in the hopes it will make us more conscientious of what we are spending it on. I am not sold it will work 100% but hey marriage is about compromise.
I pay by cash or check.

It's nobody's business what I buy. These people have no business being up my @$$.
My ATM shortchanged me and my bank told me to call some number in FL to get my money back.
I said, "I don't chase wild geese and I don't take orders from my bank."
So the manager called FL, they hung up on her, she called back to ask why they hung up on her, and then she told me it was a bad phone connection. Did she forget I was sitting there the whole time?

I have 2 debit cards, 1 from my bank for personal use; the other is a Wal-mart debit card that you refill, I use this one for on-line purchases. I load the Wal-mart money card with just enough money to cover the purchases.
I have Biz cards for the Company since I order a lot of IT stuff from non-vendors. I did once have a Biz card scammed by ordering some software on Amazon.com.
The company that Amazon used as a CC clearinghouse got a virus on their servers that cost them over 100 mill in fraud.
The guys who did it just recently went to jail for it. They ran up a 10K bill on the card, buying motherboards for video gaming computers from Tokyo. The bank refunded everything to us.
My Wife and I both put almost everything on our personal CC since both of our pay goes Direct-Deposit into our accounts and with electronic banking I can just move the money to pay off the card every month. We also get points for our card too as a plus.
I like paying in the store with a debit card because I can keep better track of my money. By the time I am back from the store the transaction is recorded on line. I know exactly how much I have. And it is free through E-trade.
As far as pay by check. Why be pizzed off at the check writer?? If the lines are long and you are getting upset, vent yourself to the store manager who's job it is to make sure there are enough cashiers to handle the business in a timely matter. Don't rush the little old lady so that WalMart can make a bigger profit.
Some facts:
- An individual is only liable for $50 of fraudulent charges on a CC. It's the law.
- An individual is liable for everything when a debit card is fraudulently used. The bank can be nice and try to recover the money, or even refund from their own, but it's up to them.
- Any place that accepts credit cards already has 3-4% surcharge built into the price, the cost of running a purchase through the credit card network
- Any place that accepts credit cards can't give you a cash discount, it's against the contract with the credit cards
- Credit cards have cash back/bonus/miles programs that return some of that 3-4% surcharge that all your purchases have
Going cash/debit card only has downsides.
Credit cards also have other benefits and protections. Eight months ago we signed a contract with a company called Local AD link an internet advertising company. After 6-months we saw no evidence that they were doing what they promised. The person that sold us the plan called and said he found out the company was a scam and to ask for our money back. We did and they just offered more of nothing, we called Discover and filled a complaint. Discover refunded our money and investigated and finalized the credit in full.
When there were disputes with vendors my credit card companies suddenly lost the ability to understand spoken English.
I recommend all correspondence with these people be in writing. If you e-mail them but they respond by phone, watch out. They can tape you but you may not be able to tape them.

This notion that debit cards are not protected to the extent credit cards are is untrue. Flat out incorrect. I always thought they were not protected too.
But.
I was listening to Dave Ramsey last week, and he had a whole segment on this, due to a bank guy somewhere in a national newspaper who purported the false claim of debit cards not being provided the same protections as credit cards.
He put it to rest. Clark Howard also claims this. Debit cards are afforded the exact same protections as a regular credit card if it is issued by VISA or MASTERCARD.
It even says so on their websites.
As Dave says, If you play with the snakes long enough your goin to get bit. I don't use credit cards. I carry a visa check card for both my business and personal. I used to use checks for the business but now they just scan them and hand them back. So why fight the trend.
