For anyone interested, holding down the alt key while pressing 0176 and releasing will generate the unicode that results in °.

Once having entered that in a thread you can copy and paste it as an easier way of generating the character from that point on in a thread.

Put the ALT codes in a doc. And you can then paste them when you want them later.
