9/11, a day of mourning or celebration?
Looks like President Obama is using his smoke and mirror tricks to steer the American people away from our disdain for the attacks on our homeland on September 11, 2009, by declaring 9/11 the very Socialist sounding Day of Service; http://spectator.org/archives/2009/0...-desecrate-911
Nice to know that our president is so willing to stomp all over our values with celebrations on a day when one of the worst attacks on the U.S. by a foreign enemy had occured; And here is what that coalition that is going to take over how 9/11 is celebrated consists of;With the help of the Obama administration, the coalition is launching a public relations campaign under the radar of the mainstream media -- which remains almost uniformly terrified of criticizing the nation's first black president -- to try to change 9/11 from a day of reflection and remembrance to a day of activism, food banks, and community gardens.Just wait till you see what they have planned for 12/25 and the entire Easter season.A coalition including the unsavory left-wing pressure group Color of Change and about 60 far-left, environmentalist, labor, and corporate shakedown groups participated in the call. Groups on the call included: ACORN, AFL-CIO, Apollo Alliance, Community Action Partnership, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs, Friends of the Earth, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Mobilize.org, National Black Police Association, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, National Council of Negro Women, National Wildlife Federation, RainbowPUSH Coalition, Urban League, and Young Democrats of America.Government is a disease......masquerading as its own cureEcclesiastes 10:2 NIV

That is totally unbelievable. Taking that date and trying to cover up the terrorist attack and our remembrance of what was done by a commie service day is unpardonable. Rest assured that as you said the national pro commie media will go along with this and it will get defended right here on this forum by the love Obama posters who worship the ground he walks on and proclaim he can't do no wrong.
Lets just see how many will line up behind this anti American move by our socialist president. Can't wait. Thank you very much."I could have ended the war in a month. I could have made North Vietnam look like a mud puddle."

It is up to each citizen to make the effort to remember. As a nation, we have short memories. The colonists rallied against the British after the Boston Massacre. We don't celebrate the date or remember Crispus Attucks. During that time in history, Americans banded together against a common foe. The defeat of Custer at Little Big Horn, The sinking of the Lusitania, The sinking of the Battle Ship Maine, The attack on Pearl Harbor, the Gulf of Tonkin incident,
The bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beruit, The taking of 444 hostages in Iran ,the Air Attack on Septemper 11 in New York and every other assault on Americans has resulted in the American citizens coming together. As time passes, memories and emotions fade for some. Don't let them fade for you. I will remember September 11th for what it was and fly my flag to honor those that died. Unfortunately, commercialism has moved in and overshadowed the true meaning.

Crispus and his buddies were hurling insults and rocks at British troops instead of working....Crispus and I guess a couple of others got their asses capped for goofing off.
Not taking up for the British... but it was massacre that need not happen....and wouldnt have happened if a group of wharf rats were minded their own business and working like they were supposed to be doing.
Crispus and the others who died and were wounded that day were no heroes.....they were just plain stupid and arrogant.
If old crispus had been minding his broom like a good wharf rat.....he might have lived a few more years......might have gotten the chance to fight like a man instead of throwing rocks and snowballs at armed men.......lol

Unbelievable troy. So you are defending Obama on making it a "Service Day" instead of a "Day of Remembrance". I guess there is nothing that Obama has done, is doing or could do that you would object too and not defend. Yes you are a true believe in the cause troy. Socialism all the way. Thank you very much.

glennac, I'm not sure why you have a hard on for me but I guess it is your problem not mine. No where did I say I defended Obama. Those were your words. Take the time and read the link and then take the time and read my post. Socialism all the way? Is that your belief? Explain exactly what the "cause" is I'm supposed to believe in.

By the way, Public Law No. 107-89 declares September 11th as Patriot Day. Celebrate it accordingly.

Representatives Advocates Establishing September 11 as an Annually Observed
National Day of Service
WASHINGTON, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- More than seven years after terrorist
attacks on America left nearly 3,000 people dead, U.S. Congress took a major
step today toward establishing 9/11 as an annually recognized National Day of
Service.
Language to designate 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance has
been included as an important provision in the Generations Invigorating
Volunteerism and Education Act, or GIVE Act, (H.R. 1388), which was introduced
today and authorizes groundbreaking federal support for many innovative
national service programs. Under the GIVE Act, the anniversary of 9/11 would
be observed in ways similar to Martin Luther King Day. People would
voluntarily engage in remembrance through personal and organized service
activities and reflection, but 9/11 would not become a federal holiday. U.S.
Senator Charles Schumer (NY) and U.S. Rep. Peter King (NY-3), both of whom
have long supported establishing 9/11 as a national day of service, worked
with GIVE Act sponsors U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (NY-04) and U.S. Rep. George
Miller (CA-07), Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, to
develop the 9/11 language for the bill.
"To establish 9/11 as a national day of service and unity would be nothing
short of historic, and today our nation has taken a giant step in that
direction with the introduction of the GIVE Act," said David Paine, president
and founder of MyGoodDeed.org, the nonprofit founded in 2003 with widespread
support of 9/11 family groups to transform September 11 into an annually
observed day of service. "A national call to service each 9/11 will remind
people of the remarkable spirit of unity we shared as a nation in the
aftermath of the terrorist attacks, ensuring that future generations
understand that 9/11 was not only about evil but also about the remarkable
expression of compassion and unity by Americans and people around the world in
response to the needs of others for help."
"I have been active in seeking a service day for years," said U.S.
Representative Peter King. "America came together in the aftermath of 9/11,
reminding us what it truly means to be part of this great nation. By making
9/11 a national day of service, that same spirit of giving will continue in a
day of remembrance, unity, and selflessness."
SENATE CONSIDERATION LIKELY
The U.S. Senate presently is considering its own national service bill, known
as the Serve America bill (S-3487) introduced by U.S. Senators Edward Kennedy
(MA) and Orrin Hatch (UT). Paine said that U.S. Senator Charles Schumer may
offer similar 9/11 language for possible inclusion in the Serve America bill.
President Barack Obama, in his recent speech to a joint session of Congress,
called upon lawmakers to pass national service legislation and present it to
him for signature as soon as possible.
"Passage of federal legislation establishing 9/11 as a National Day of Service
would surely help bring a sense of healing to one of the worst human tragedies
in U.S. history," said Jay S. Winuk, co-founder and vice president of
MyGoodDeed.org, and brother of attorney and 9/11 rescuer Glenn J. Winuk, a
firefighter/EMT who perished when the WTC's South Tower collapsed. "Just as
important, especially considering all the challenges we now face as a country,
America would benefit greatly from an annual call to service on 9/11. One can
only imagine the positive impact of millions of Americans engaging in service,
many for the very first time, in honor of those lost and those who rose to
service after the horror of that September morning. The 9/11 family member
community is fortunate to have so many leaders in Congress who share our
vision of what 9/11 can and should become. We offer our sincerest thanks to
our founding Congressional Advisory Board members, Senator Charles Schumer and
Rep. Peter King, and to those advancing service in Congress, including U.S.
Representatives Carolyn McCarthy, George Miller, Buck McKeon and Doris
Matsui."

MyGoodDeed.org, a 501c(3) charitable organization, has lead the seven-year
effort to establish 9/11 as a national day of service. To recognize 9/11 and
honor the lives of the victims and the efforts of 9/11 volunteers and rescue
and recovery workers who rose in service, each year MyGoodDeed.org organizes
activities that encourage individuals and organizations to set aside time on
the anniversary of 9/11 to perform simple good deeds and service that help
others in need. In recent years support for the initiative has grown rapidly.
More than one million individuals from all 50 states and more than 150
nations have posted 9/11 service ideas and pledges to perform good deeds on
the organization's Web site. Last year MyGoodDeed.org was responsible for
securing commitments from Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain
to observe a moratorium on political campaigning on 9/11. Both suspended their
campaign activities for the day and agreed to appear together at a nationally
televised policy forum in New York City organized by ServiceNation, a
coalition of more than 200 national and local nonprofit organizations
including MyGoodDeed.org
MyGoodDeed.org has also attracted the support of a growing list of leaders
from political, corporate, charitable, sports and entertainment communities,
including U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, actor Gary Sinise,
and many other prominent individuals.
Former American Idol winner Jordan Sparks, CNN "Showbiz Tonight" host A.J.
Hammer, and former New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel joined together on
September 11 to lead a MyGoodDeed.org service project in New York City with
students at a lower Manhattan public school.
To help support MyGoodDeed.org programs, contributions were made by American
Express, Ambac Financial Corporation, Jim Fassel Foundation, Keefe Bruyette
and Woods, MBIA, and Sony Corporation. Google, Yahoo, and AOL provide in-kind
support in the form of free online public service announcements. Work in
support of key 9/11 legislative objectives has been performed by the 9/11 Day
of Service Committee, a 501c(4) nonprofit organization.
I may be reading this wrong but it sounds like the families of the victims of 9/11 were working on this way before Obama was even a senator.

Oh yes...
I think its in the official court transcript....there were soldiers punsished for this so called massacre of dead beats.....
but anyhow..... I think Crispus's last known words were...... "Feets donts fails me now"
Imagine him tossing that snowball that caused that british soldier to drop his weapon...which accidentally discharged....thereby setting off a lightning quick chain of events that led the other armed british soldiers to believe that they had been fired upon by the snowball and rock armed mob of deadbeat wharf workers....
Imagine the look on Crispus's face when after peeking out from around that building to see where his snowball with a rock in it had landed.....he saw nothing but smoke in the distance...and all those tiny lead balls hurtling toward him at several hundred feet per second....
He should have stayed on that broom....
When we honor drunken sots like Crispy...we dishonor the true american heroes who actually fought and died for this country.... Crispy was a drunk throwing rocks.. thats all he was.....
100 years from now they will probably have him fighting off 100 british soldiers bare handed before being felled by 200 bullets......

Troy read robo's link. It explains what this move is all about.
"This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year's election campaign. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it's not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.
On the Aug. 11 call, Yearwood and other leaders kept saying repeatedly that they wanted 9/11 to be used for something "positive," "forward-leaning," and "productive," said a source with knowledge of the teleconference.
With the help of the Obama administration, the coalition is launching a public relations campaign under the radar of the mainstream media -- which remains almost uniformly terrified of criticizing the nation's first black president -- to try to change 9/11 from a day of reflection and remembrance to a day of activism, food banks, and community gardens.
"The organizing term is to 'go dark.' You don't tell the press, don't tell people you think will tell the press," said the source. "
So troy I was surprised that you aren't taking this move by Obama as a move to remove the memory of 911. Can't you see what this is all about even if you are a liberal I'm sure you are an "American" and should be opposed to this. If not then I have to question your patriotism. Check out the link or are you blindly following what Obama says. Hoping for a reassessment on your thoughts on this subject. Thank you very much."I could have ended the war in a month. I could have made North Vietnam look like a mud puddle."
