Johnny, why are you offended by our wanting to keep an area for professional members free of non-professionals?
It was just bad timing on my part and I realized that I overreacted. I was offended for a moment, but Iím over it. I was a little touchy because I just had an argument with my boss over this issue after two new guys spent 4 days destroying an Enthalpy controller and Economizer package on a Carrier 50QJ Heat Pump. I was upset because I told the boss that I didnít want these guys touching this particular unit. There have been a lot of people systematically destroying it over the years and Iíve been repairing & nurturing it along for many years.
I overheard the original complaint just by chance and within 2 seconds I new what the problem was. The complaint was that there was no air flow, which had to be the fan belt or possibly the motor. When the boss asked if they checked the fan belt, they said it didnít have a belt. Well it was the belt, but now the broken Economizer wasnít allowing the compressors to come on. The two ďcertified techsĒ were talking about replacing two perfectly good compressors as I came through the door. Up until these guys messed with it, it has run fine for years.
Donít get me wrong. I love teaching those who want to learn and are willing to listen, but itís frustrating when they donít listen to word you say and second guess youíre every move. And I donít pretend I know everything. I certainly made my share of mistakes, but never anything like this. I remember an old timer many years ago getting upset with us when we screwed up and I thought, I hope I donít end up like him. The standing joke at the time was that he probably forgot more than weíll ever know. Now itís happening to me. Maybe I need to retire, because itís getting harder and harder to accept stupidity and arrogance in one encounter.
Anyway I went through some old boxes and found some certificates, so Iíll be sending them soon.
