This is our dis-assembly area. We pull the coils out of everything and scrap it. The proceeds of the from the scrap is used for a company clam bake in September.
It is a shame that we live in a throw away society.

No that is about 3 months worth. We have to take the compressor out because they have oil in them. The metal can go to the town dump. We have to put a tag on them saying that all the refrigerant has been taken out of them. The coils we sell. The compressors go to a happy place were nobody has *****ed yet.
This is the backyard of our shop. We are in a commercial area. The business over the fence is a Tire Shop. We buy all of our tires off of him so we are good neighbors. No complaints.

Our junk pile before Larry the junkman got here this morning. This is 2 weeks worth, it's been slow so he didn't come last week.
BEFORE:

DURING: He strips them here. Only thing he won't take is capacitors!

AFTER: Clean as a lick. He rakes all the junk up so we don't get flats. Pays us $5 for each condensing unit.

Here's an interesting coil. Guy had twin outdoor units on this dual-circuited all aluminum evap. The outdoor units looked like Coolerators. We replaced with 1 3.5 ton unit.

All of our piles look the same. I never get tired of staring at all that old stuff though. I like that dual-circuited coil Loonie. Looks like it had been painted a couple of times for longevity but finally lost the battle to the rust! Wish I had a Larry. He left nothing but his tire tracks on the way out.

the shop I am at right now has the same type of pile, except a local scrap yard has a big bin we chuck everything in except cond and evap coils (and copper of course, thats beer fund) anyway a few weeks ago the scrap yard closed up shop to everything except copper and Alum. There is NO scrap yard for over 150 mile away. Yard is going to get a little PACKED in a few mths. haha.
Last shop I was at had to put up a big ass fence to keep "larry" the scrap guy out. It is a industrial/Comercial shop and had allot of good used equipment we were storing and some new stuff that was just waiting to get installed, Well "Larry" the scrap guy came by one night and decided the headers on a 90ton condenser would be better in his truck than on our coil. came in the next day to find a new condenser a little lighter. haha. bad thing was I had to fix it.
Ahhhh. some scrap guys will stop at nothing.
