What will save me more money on heating costs?
Gas Furnace or Heat Pump
I live in Central Florida, so I don't use heat all that much. My current system is gas, but I'm interested in replacing it with a heat pump system. The costs for conversion are minimal, since the electrical panel is right next to the air handler. This is for a 2 1/2 ton heat pump with 5 kilowatt aux heat. What are the pros and cons of replacement. Another option is duel fuel, but it is a little more expensive.

What do you pay for electricity and gas on a per unit energy basis?
What's the COP of the heat pump on at the temperature of your typical heating day?
If you pay 7 cents per KWHr electric and your heat pump has a COP of 3, the heat pump is economically viable as long as your cost for gas per KWHr is more than 3 times your cost of electricity per KWHr. Substitute '4' for '3' if your heat pump has a COP of 4, etc.
