I now feel like I just wasted good info on some dummy that will simply reply… can I just have some a/c guy remove a little “coolant”?
I wish you would not say that this person is unintelligent. I can tell that you have not been in the HVAC industry long. I suggest that you do more research as to how much refrigerant a 1 ton a/c unit require. And good luck as to your success in HVAC. By the way, I have never heard of anyone that sale an a/c unit, I do know that Sears have them on sale some-times. In order to be in this field you must have good writing skills to, but I realize that none of us are perfect. So I ask you did you really mean to use the word sell instead of sale in your thread ? That's smart, don't you think! Oh I forgot, you first started in HVAC when you turned 5. A change in you attitude would be a good place to start your career. I apologize to visitors who read this post. We should all have respect for others, that's what makes us professionals. Notice: where is that reply that you were waiting for?

But I have to say- No need to call me a dummy. If you feel like you just wasted good info, then why bother?

If you are saying I'm 'some dummy' because I asked it more than once- I asked because I wasn't getting a clear explanation of why that wouldn't work- just people telling me that it's not something that's done. I get it. I know now I should have gotten a smaller unit- I was trying to figure if anyone could offer advice about what I could do with the one I have.

If you're calling me a dummy for suggesting removing the R22 in the first place- sorry, I never claimed to know about the mechanics/details of this sort of thing. That's why I'm asking. And excuse me for calling refrigerant 'coolant'- if that's the other part of your snide remark. No need to be rude- you can offer advice to a novice without being a condescending jerk about it.

If I misread you being a snide smartass, my apologies. If you were being obnoxious, then thanks for the info, it's helpful, but there's no need to be a smart ass know-it-all. Even if you do know it all.
Subs, you have asked very intelligent questions. No question is a dumb question, and for people to say so just remember this quote by Herb Caen.

Well, cool air is heavier than warm air. Deflecting the a/c air upward may cause you to be uncomfortable also. I would set the fan speed to it's lowest setting and turn on the ceiling fan where it will allow air to be deflected upward. Then set the a/c diffusers to blow air down and away from you directly.

I loved reading Herb Caen when I visited my grandparents in California as a teen. His talent is sorely missed.

    I agree.

We are professionals. And for the respect of all humanity we should conduct our self as such. I come from CUBA and have worked very close with the Russians in the HVAC field, I can tell you they have never! Disrespected an individuals questions in the goal to gain knowledge. Please forgive my English Grammar, I will be learning and perfecting everything I do for life.

    Concuerdo.

I imagine when Cuba and Mexico et al open up for some real economic growth, that will stretch the limits of what we consider normal for HVAC. Carnak would probably feel at home though.

Well since we are nit picking grammar how about you take a look at your own. "You know that Sears have" or should it be HAS them on sale some times. Thank you for offering good luck to me but I have been in the industry for some time. I would challenge you to prove me wrong. A 12K BTU “window unit” requires 36.5OZ. R-22 that is. If you add or remove any of that refrigerant you will have changed the design of that system resulting in compressor damage. This makes it a critical charge. When the refrigerant is added it is weighed in at the factory to the exact requirements.

Also… I did not include the word sell I used sale and my career is doing fine. Thank you.

Thank you for your response. I'm not trying to say anything bad about you, or to say you were wrong with the info you offered. I just did not like your opinion about Subs being a dummy. I hope you understand. By the way, as I said no one is perfect. I speak Spanish, Porchgeese and English so I sometimes; and certainly not immune in making mistakes in using incorrect grammar. Thanks for the lesson.

The lesson is on the house.

I am happy that we are able to find resolve. I attended the HVAC program at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. I would highly recommend this kind of education to anyone with a desire to learn. The best part of learning is putting your skills and ability’s to the test in real world environments.

    Thank you.
