Wow! Anyone heard of this? Talk about an end-run around gunrights!
This was sent to me and is very disturbing. We must act in order to protect
our 2nd Amendment rights.
All of the anti-gun legislation with this administration to date is VERY
UNCOMFORTABLE....and here's the first stage of it.....
Let everyone know who hunts or does competition shooting.
Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal
tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints
and a tax of $50 per gun. (if it is later found that you had guns
that you declined to declare and or pay the tax on you could be
charged with a felony)
The bill was introduced on Feb. 24th and will become public knowledge
30 days after it is voted into law.. This is an amendment to the
Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee
can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all..
The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S.
Senate homepage
You can find it by doing a search by the bill number, SB-2099.

You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of
this e-mail to every gun owner you know to help STOP this bill !!!Warning: Just because I am over the head injury doesn't mean I'm normal!
The day I stop learning.... I'm dead!

You sure are cocky for a starving pilgrim.

Thanks all. I just found a simular article debunking this letter on the NRA's sight. Sorry for any confusion, I should have checked it out better first. The guy who sent me this is normally very reliable.

Rumor or truth?
http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/bills/bls2099.htm
This is where the SB2099 Rumor started. But after reading this document you might find that there really was a Bill with a name called "Handgun Safety and Registration Act of 2000" that was killed in committe late in debate.
This would have ammended the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Lucky for us "conservatives" were in control of congress at that time. And then 9/11 pretty much put the coffin nails on the discussion during the Bush Term.
This Bill was introduced by Senator Jack Reed (Junior Senator at the time)
who just happens to still be in office. http://reed.senate.gov/ Now, 9 years later Hand Gun legistlation is beginning to roam the halls of Congress again. Do you think this congress and adminstration will stop such an admendent this time? It is wise of us to pay attention to what this administration is capable of.
Rumor or truth? We don't really know today.
