Return on a 3 ton system!
I think it was an 8",,, I went up to investigate after having no superheat on a 3 ton Payne. The original no cooling problem was from a bad contactor.
There were 2 systems in the attic with small returns. Customer said they were operating fine like that. I probably irritated them by taking pictures and just my overall unbelief that things like this are done by "contractors",,,,, oh well.

Typical ( from what I've seen ).
When is the last time you walked into a residential job ( that you didn't install , lol ) and say ..." man , someone did a nice job on this ". Like " big return duct " , nice " even - square " piping , tight control wire routing , etc.
Stuff like this is KILLING our industry as we speak ..the DSS market loves the " typical " horrer stories such as this. 5 dollars an hour is what we will be working for ( installing DSS ).
