I had a self lighting Burnzomatic torch. With Mapp Gas, it didn't get hot enough to braze 3/4". I moved on to an acetylene turbo torch, and finally oxy-acetylene.

I never have or never will solder refrigeration line. Brazeing with silver is the only way refrigeration line should be connected.

Do people still solder? Bet that works good with the high pressure! Nobody who does quality work will solder.

MAPP can braze as well as solder.

    I have done both.

I prefer an oxy-acetylene torch because it heats faster and, I think, does a better job.

I tried the turbo torch and didn't like it for brazing. Oxy/acetylene for me.

thanks for the help ,i was asking more about brazing refrigerant lines with 6 or 15 % rods. i feel that it takes to long to heat up with the mapp gas burnzomatic set up and would be better with a acetylene or oxy- acetylene set up.

They don't make mapp gas anymore. I think about a year ago the only factory that produced it for all the different companies decided to shut down or something. The replacement stuff still comes in a yellow can that looks the same, but it is now called map gas and it doesn't burn as hot.

    I use a TurboTorch Extreme self-lighting TX504 & mapp for plumbing only.

    Oxy/acet for everything else.

I used MAPP Gas to solder up some copper water pipe, but I don’t think I would even think to use it for refrigeration.

I once had to repair a system that someone else put together and I was wondering if they may have used something like MAPP, because all the fittings just kind of blew apart. I ended up just cutting it all out and started over.
