This is another reason why I love my job.

Went out to a call to do a heat pump check on a vacant house. Landlord is fixing it up to rent out. I saw the Goodman unit outside and didn't think too much of it until I got inside. 25 year old Carrier air handler held together by silver tape and God knows what else. Filter was a mess, and so is the coil. The air handler is going to have to be physically removed to get the coil out to clean it. It's all gummed up with this black oozing stuff which I assume is mold and whatever else... I also love the Skuttle humidifier with the cover popped open that will not close. I also love the fact there are no snow legs on the heat pump, and the high voltage wiring is starting to beak apart. Big bucks to fix. I'm trying to get the landlord to replace this abortion, but the way things are going he won't. I'll probably be back to clean it. Lucky me.

Not as lean, not as mean, but I'm still a hardcore, ass-kicking, hard charging Marine! Oohrah!

I would consider a gallon of gas and a match to clean that coil. I have a feeling that you would probably be doing the owner a favor.

You try and clean that and your asking for problems. A leaking coil, water problems, mold that cant be cleaned out.
    Id walk no matter what!
