Blower Motor not running

My blower motor (in the furnace compartment) stopped running the other day, the out side unit runs fine. A service tech found that the high speed wire was loose and reconnected. He also found the motor was running a little hot after a few minutes of operation, said that may have caused the connection to loosen from excessive heat. The next afternoon the motor stopped again, I check connection and it still doesnt run. I pulled the assembly and the motor spins freely and doesnt have any "electrical smell" , it is about 8 years old.
Question, could the run capacitor be the issue and is it likely the motor went bad and still spins freely? Also being in Las Vegas the motor deals with heat from running and an attic that is about 170 degrees , any specific brand of motors that deal with extremes better?

If the motor was running hot when the tech was there, why didn't he suggest you replace it?

Was running a little hot at the time. Question is it likely that caused failure and it still spins freely and has no smell if the motor went bad? Thanks for your help

that blower motor is living in the best of conditions & should have not been running hot. tech may not of had motor on truck but should have noted
that it needed changed.

Sounds like I better get a new motor and run capacitor and put it in. In fact i recall it hit 127 in a fairly short period. Any particular brand of motor to get or do they al perform about the same.

Well, there's definitely something not right. Call the tech back and have him re-check, but I would imagine a blower motor in your future.

This is about all I can say in the open forum without getting a slight correction from the mods........

He had check the circuit board, check the voltage and amps, all checked out ok. The only two issues identified where the loose wire and operating temp, which was 127 after about 1 1/2 to 2 mins of operating

Passed experience with electric motors had always involved freezing and an "burnt smell"

Call your service company back and have them re-check this issue.....

Off the top of my head I can think of 5 or 6 things that could be your issue and none of them are the motor.....

Don't start wasting your money on part changing.....let a qualified technician come out and save yourself some money and headaches.....
