Used Trane XB10 (1.5 ton) and AH for XXX

My friend has a 7-year old York heat pump, 1.5 ton, that suffered from a poor installation job. He has had numerous problems relating to that. At only six years old, the system developed a leak in the evap coil. I just came across a 1.5 ton XB10 (10-seer) Trane Heat pump and air handler for $x, although I know I can talk the guy down. It is about 4 years old. what is a fair price (if any) for the Trane unit?

You could get a new 13 seer for less than that.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. But what if I offer him $x. Is that fair (to me)?
