If it was just too much work to pipe the overflow into the pan, then why bother wiring up the float switch? What you cant see is the main drain line runs uphill after going under the unit and the drain pan itself isn't piped outside. The saddest part is this unit was installed by one of the better contractors in the area and inspected by the county. The inspector had noted with a red pen on the duct work that there was a screw missing at the heat shield but failed to notice what you see below. What a shame.

So are they using where the pvc goes up to get out of the secondary pan as the trap?

where im from we use threaded rod to support the unit.....love the chain

in our county if you have an over flow switch in the pan u do not need to pipe the overflow pan...for commercial at least.

In this county its the same way. In this situation once the primary clogged the unit filled up enough to start leaking out of the duct work. Barely any water ended up in the over flow pan. It's installers like this that keep me busy.

Hey, if you notice, the knockout on the secondary drain hasn't been busted out. Wouldn't have done any good to hook up a pvc drain anyways.

Why do you guys always put the condensate safety switch sticker on the air handler ? Wouldn't it make more sense to stick it to the condensing unit?

That is an awesome question... Fortunately I have enough common sense to put it outside on the unit.
