HELP -- ASZ16 Install split level question
My upstairs split level HP is broken. A local HVAC group came out and quoted several options (Goodman, Amana, Ruud). I decided to go with the Amana ASZ16 because of the efficiency, reviews, variable speed blower, etc. Now the contractor is coming back saying they cannot install this unit due to wiring issues (house was not originally wired for variable speed unit, etc.) 2 stage compressor, etc. Is this a real constraint, or just a cost issue (i.e. too hard)? Your advice is greatly appreciated....Thanks.

Not quite sure what he means by not wired for V/S, what would he do if it were a complete new install?
Sounds fishy to me

Hard to give an honest opinion.
Nobody here can "see" the job.
Have you tried asking them first?

Does the the thermostat wiring need to be re-done for a 2-stage condenser, i.e. needs an extra wire?

Most need more then just one extra wire.
Shouldn't be hard to get teh extra wires to the outdoor unit. On a regular home.
As far as the wires to the thermostat. They can use a Honeywell IAQ, or a Honeywell wireless thermoststat.

They can use a wireless device called instant wire or something like that. It will add up to two additional wires to the t'stat and to the condenser. i will try and find the name, I have used them and they are very easy and reliable.
They can get them from Johnstone.
