You need to remove ALL of the refrigerant?

And you want to do it without a recovery machine?

    Not recommended. At all.
    • Electricity makes refrigeration happen.
    • Refrigeration makes the HVAC psychrometric process happen.
    • HVAC pyschrometrics is what makes indoor human comfort happen...IF the ducts AND the building envelope cooperate.

A building is NOT beautiful unless it is also comfortable.

It means that you need to apply for pro membership because questions like yours are not typically answered in the open Residential Forums.

I'm surprised that the Mods haven't closed some of your posts.

    Take care.

    You have to have both.

There is no way to know which will be used most, but both have to be used when the proper procedure calls for it to be used
    .

Perhaps HVAC Supply distributors, or other sources, should provide rentals, ha. - Darrell

You NEED both. At the same time. Not optional, required.

Hate to pop your bubble, but that is the way it is.

They don't serve the same purpose. They each have their own function.
    So you need both.

Its an EPA requiremet that you have access to a recovery machine to work on refrigerant containing appliances.

A recovery machine can't pull a vacuum good enough for use as a vacuum pump.
    So you NEED both.
