What isn't wrong with this pic?

Got called out on a no a/c call. This is on a 15 ton split downflow system. A few years ago, a "well-known" contractor did this changeout: new a/c condensing unit (Tempstar with 2-7.5 ton comps), 3 new Tempstar gas furnaces multi-positional set in downflow (all 3 are trippled together, which is not recommended and not supported my Tempstar) with all 3 vents running down, over, then back up & tied back into what was a common vent supply (10" I think), sitting on top of the original Carrier coil. The new furnaces are still smaller than the old coil, so they blocked off about 18" on one end. If I hadn't of seen it myself, I wouldn't have believed it. Needless to say, one of the comps is shot.

Love the venting. Is there a cap to put the car exhaust in there as well?

Unless they were looking for new equipment, I would pack up my tools and walk away.
Sound installation practices is the key to success. Equipment is only as good as the person installing it.

If I can't fix it, it ain't broke.

Sadly, yes...after declaring bankruptcy on a $60k debt from a local bank, and other supply house debts. His son was ordered under house arrest at a halfway house for a year, I think; and he was installed with an ankle lo-jack for a while. But now that that's over, he and his son are back working. We see him around town every now and then. Probably working the countryside. As far as I've heard, he never was caught doing anything major wrong code-wise (never caught or turned in IOW), so they never yanked his license. Keep in mind, I live in an area of about 80,000 that is covered by one hvac inspector, one plumbing inspector, etc. And the state inspector for this area covers about 1/4 of the state. They do good just to get proper inspections done. It's kinda like police, there are never enough hired. That's one of the things that bugs me about this industry (at least in this area): it doesn't take much to get certified and work for yourself from the kitchen table (not knocking the legit ones that do, but the good ones are far and few between). I found out a while back that our state license mechanical test is all open book now. A monkey could pass the test. And there's no retesting or recertification as long as you pay your yearly license fee. I wish NATE or similar was mandatory here. Oh well.

Guess I better get off the soap box, I'm sure someone else needs it.

Are those furnaces even convertible to downflow?

I know some multiposition furnaces are, but even if those are, they clearly were not converted.
