Comfortmaker 5000 outside unit problem
Unit is over 10 years old...first time I have had any type of problem with it.
This is the first time this year I have used the system.
Turned on the A/C at the thermostat...blower on the inside heating unit works fine, but outside fan for the condenser/blower? would not start.
Tapped on the side of the unit where the power source is located...it started to work then quit.
Tapped on it a little harder and it started to work without turning off.
noticed that the thermostat had not gone down in temperature...went outside and fan was off again.
Repeated the same tap-tap on the side and it is now working again...but did sound like something was either loose inside or trying to make contact.
Did some checking online and sounds like it may be the contactor.
The trusted HVAC who installed the unit (whom I always use for everything HVAC) will be able to service the unit in about a week.
Should I continue to keep "tappping on" the fan, or let it alone till help arrives.
Think it is the contact/contactor that is the problem?
Thanks for any replies.

LOL...will wait for the Pro.
Outstanding forum and response time!
Love it when people truly enjoy their work and chosen profession.
Waiting for the inside temp.to match-up with thermostat and see if the fan outside stops and starts again when needed (w/o me tapping on it).
Thanks for the info...understand about the "no-tap" rule...don't want to dislodge something that isn't broken.

found the problem
Decided too take a look at it myself (mechanical curiosity)
Turned off the power source and removed the cover for the electrical connections to the contactor plug.
Checked out the wire connect spades, and two of them fell off at the touch (rusted through) Replaced all of the wire connect spades and blew out around the contacts with canned air....works fine now!
Still having the HVAC tech come out and give it a good service call (freon,etc...)
I am a mechanic in a can making plant ...Ball Corp. Metal Containers...so I could'nt resist trying!
Thanks for the info provided by responders.
