    I applaud Obama

    I applaud Obama for having a wreath delivered by an aide to the Confederate Soldiers war memorial and not bowing to a bunch of radical nutty professors. As a gesture he had a wreath delivered to the African American Civil War soldier’s memorial. I think that this should have been done by all presidents after all they were soldiers and fought for their country.

    Obama may never make another decision I agree with but at least this time he did.

    Could be that some of them were owned by his ancestors on his now neglected White side of the family. Yes, the president's ancestors were slave owners.

    This is no big secret, or even a little one. There are several references to this fact. Here are just a few;

    And just for an added bonus feature, here is something showing that Michele Obama has ancestors who were themselves slaves;

    Maybe Barack Obama's ancestors once owned Michele Obama's ancestors

    As has been being stated by those of us who do not believe in slave repartations to the descendants of slaves (apologies for slave holding ancestors is appropriate though), the self appointed Black president now must make the same statement that these are things long past and must be put behind us.

    Thumbs down slave reparation BS

    What do they think they have been getting for the last 50 yrs?????? We have bankrupted this country with so much welfare, entitlements, Affirmative Action, Sub-Prime loans, reverse discrimination out the wahzoo.

    The federal gov't gave many, many slaves "reparations" after the Civil War. Heck, they simply took all the seacoast islands off Ga. and handed them over indiscriminately to the first ex-slaves they could find. Totally unconstitutional. Makes a nightmare for passing clear real estate titles today. Then you have your 40 acres and a mule program.

    We have been bombarded with reverse discrimination since the late 60s. I remember my oldest sister was turned down for a civil service job in 1967 because she was not black even though her scores were light years ahead of the black applicants. How many quotas have given favor to blacks who were undeserving or less qualified? I have a relative who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Temple but was shot down for a Master's program over a black who was female with a GPA of 2.0. We have our new Supreme Court nominee who sided with New Haven, Ct. against white firefighters in favor of blacks who scored significantly lower. She was chastised for her ruling, which btw, is now before the US Supreme Ct.

    Where does it all end? Where does it begin? How do you define a 'slave'? I mean, there were African slaves, endentured servants, 'white' slaves, etc. Are we just talking about African slaves in the US or throughout history? Who's going to repay the Jews--Egypt? Iraq? Syria? How about the English and Duct traders who first instituted slavery to the US? Are the Spanish going to repay Mexico and South America?

    This is the single most assinine thing I have ever heard. Just another form of racial socialism/ fascism.

    Whooahhh hearthman....this was just a sideline mention by me and not what the thread is about.

    Just so you don't go spreading rumors though, that 40 acres and a mule program not only bombed out but wound up turning against freed slaves after President Lincoln was assasinated. No freed slaves ever benefited from that program, which did not even include the mule during it's being initiated.

    I am not even against our countries making it a bit easier for Black Americans to catch up educationally and socially since segregation of the races was still legally effective all the way to the 1960s. But I do agree that we have gone overboard and that politicians have abused our attempts to bring Black Americans up to the standards of rights to succeed as all Americans should always have.

    There is no such thing as "reverse discrimination". Discrimination is what it is and there has been much government sanctioned discrimination going on over the past five decades. Affirmative Action is a program of legalized discrimination, pure and simple. Hate crime laws are also discriminatory. If someone does something to intentionally harm another physically or to their property, that is a crime. There is no need to add "hate" to the equation if the wrong doer happens to be White and the victim Black. That is discrimination.

    This thread was just to say one nice thing about the black messiah as I/we may never have that chance again.

    Slavery and the ensuing aftermath are for another thread.

    I just did a little research into this and it seems that our president did everything right in regard to honoring our nations fallen heros.

    I agree that the president showed dignity and honor in disregarding the letter sent by dozens of so called scholars who hatefully wanted the Confederates who died in battle neglected.

    It was also interesting to find out that sending the wreath to the Confederate memorial was started by President Wilson, who had the wreath sent on the date of President Jefferson Davis's birthday. This tradition was changed by our first President Bush who used Memorial Day to bestow this honor.

    By adding the sending of a wreath to the Memorial of Black Americans who fell in battle during the so called Civil War, President Obama has increased the dignity that we need to bestow on our fallen soldiers.

    Does anyone know if any other memorials to our fallen soldiers are not honored on Memorial Day? How about our many American soldier cemetaries in other countries? Is there something done for those sites on Memorial Day as well?
