Not really sure what I`m looking at ,but are those dampers supposed to be vertical instead of leaning?

Looks more than dirty filters someone decided to start the fan before proving damper status postion then allowed the fans to start VFD's end result calasped return air section who is to blame I will give you one guess ?

So if the dampers fail this is the result? Seems poorly constructed.

I don't care who manufactures it if you start a fan without knowing what the dampers are doing and if there is enough force within that fan this will be the end result I myself have seen entire wall structures torn down due to this problem. And I am not just talking about rooftop or indoor units sometimes entire penthouse structures are the plenums for supply and return ducts.

Static and null switches if set properly would have more than likely stopped this from even happening on both supply and return fans. And don't look at me cause I didn't start it up , because thats the first thing I set up , there are 3 critical componants you should set static , freeze , fire

Add, smoke dampers in the open position, plastic removed from supplies and returns, and check operation of the economizer (will the fans off)....then start the fans with your finger on the kill switch.
