whats in your garden ?

i'm doing all the usual stuff tomatoes peppers etc.

every year i try something different. this year i'm trying lopes.

i do everything from seed. this year is the first year i am using seeds from last years tomatoes. i started them inside 2 weeks ago and they are doing well. i bought some fluorescent grow lights from lowes and the seedlings seem to like it.

i can't wait to get some dirt under my fingernails. its my therapy.

right now...weeds..to wet to even do the spring till. Last year i tired something called pool ball squash..worked out good, just little things good for one meal does not over grow small spots

my garden is still weeds, freeze threat until memorial day.

Deer with the munchies, tried having a garden, but they just eat everything. Gave up when they came up on the deck and ate the Cherry tomatoes, nothing left but the dirt.

the deer get me pretty good. i started a deer repellent thread in general discussion. lot of ideas but the deer in the burbs are so used to humans and the smells and comotion nothing seems to work. this year i'm trying a motion sensor tied into a sprinkler. i'm sure it won't help but at least i'll get the bastards wet.

i usually just plant twice as much as i need some for them, some for me.

In our garden this year, planted Good Friday, tomatoes , sweet corn, green beans, zucchini, cucumbers, cantaloupe and jalopinos.. it's been two weeks and corn just now cropping up in rows. Also I planted 2 Topsy turvy tomatoes. Lets see how they work

Watched "The Rookie" over the weekend. They had an issue with deer eating grass seed they planted on the baseball field. They went to a local barbershop and got bags of human hair which they thru around the field...problem solved.

A friend of mine was given a small hydroponics set. It was supposed to be used for kitchen herbs but he used it to start seedlings.
I couldn't believe how quick stuff grew.
The tomato's were 4" tall and in pots after only 2 weeks.
He pulled one still in the set and the roots were longer than the plant was tall.
The sets are pricey but I think someone could build something close with a little thought.

When I manage to grow plants I try to grow the stuff that's expensive at the store, like pea pods for stir fry, beets, herbs like basil, dill.
I just heard that herbs can be frozen with good results if they are packed with a Seal A Meal. I'm going to try that.

Heirloom (Cherokee Purple, Sioux and Royal hillbilly) tomatoes for me, the wife does cucumbers,squash and different peppers.
The Daughter has more space and does the corn,okra beans.
