Can you say fire hazard? I'm just speechless about this

These pictures are from the utility room of one of the dormatories at a camp I spent a weekend at. I can't even begin to imagine what they hoped to gain by doing this... well, at least I can't imagine anything that doesn't involve an insurance policy

    It's camoflauged.
Sound installation practices is the key to success. Equipment is only as good as the person installing it.

If I can't fix it, it ain't broke.

Don't they have inspections at the camp? Kids safety and all i would think if not the county the state would have an inspection at least yearly

Is that one of them there hi-eeeficiency models? I think I saw one at my buddy
    Jim-Bob's house.
The fact that the blanket is camo just puts the icing on the cake.

Judging from the soot on the front of the unit in the third picture, I bet they have negative pressure in the building and that there blanket is insulating the vent/make up air duct to keep it from sweating in the winter.

Maybe they are heating the room upstairs with the warm air and one of them had read one of the posts here that said insulated ductwork is more efficient.

Worse... maybe social services inspected that room and noticed the hot flue pipe and told them they needed to be insulated so kids that found there way in there, couldn't burn their hands.

It is terrible, Who in there right mind would buy such a hideous looking blanket. It doesn't match the water heaters at all.
