I may call Dash, but I already have one quote, and one coming in tomorrow...The one I have is for a York 18SEER which is a bit pricey for us, but sounds like it's a good one. The company coming tomorrow which is recommeded by neighbors sells Trane. I think they will do a load survey. The other guy who was also recommended took a look around at vents and the existing ventwork, but did not do a thorough load survey. This house is not well insulated, nor does it have newer windows ( has old style hopper windows ) None of this planned for replacement as the house is not worth renovating. It was a cheaply built 70's block house. This is my Moms old house. We will only be here as long as she is. I think that was why my Dad chose a cheapo model last time. Neither of them expected to still be here in 2009. She really does not want me putting much money into it.
I have been told that a scroll compressor is more desirable over piston type. Which is why I chose the York. I don't know what a trane has, could not find that out. However without a load survey, I don't know whether we need something like that. He gave us a quote for both a 18 Seer, and a 13 Seer model and with the rebate difference, and Tax incentive there is not a huge difference in price afterward. ( provided it actually qualifies for that tax incentive ) York has a statement that it does.
I could send links to both companies. The one coming tomorrow is a fairly large local company. The other guy is like you. Worked for a company ( the other one ) and then opened his own five years ago. His website by the way is very similar to yours.
