    AC worked fine, now nothing

I know I cannot get any DIY information or any pricing but I just want an opinion on the matter.

All day my AC worked fine. I cut it off mid-day and towards the end of the day it was getting hot(mainly due to cooking) so I decided to turn it back on for a little bit. When i tried turning it on the fan came on but no AC unit. Tried heat, didn't kick on.

I went to the circuit panel and the breaker was tripped. I cut it off and back on, got a loud whirring sound from the Unit. Cut it off, back on, it did it again. Think the compressor is locked up? Or starter components? I'm just trying to figure out if I am looking at getting a new unit or if it is a simple fix. Thanks for any information you can give.

It's time to call an Hvac professional. There's not much you can do from here. Could be a variety of things. Not necessarily a compressor, but your Hvac guy will know what to check. Best to ya.

We can't tell if its an expensive repair, or a low cost repair from our chairs.

You'll need to have it checked by a tech, to find out.

Do you have power at your thermostat? If your t-stat is working your indoor blower motor could be shot. Did you go outside and check if your condenser fan was running? It could be a couple of things wrong with it. What type of furnace is it? The first thing I would check is your t-stat, then work from there.
