Congrats.
This past summer I replaced my existing heating and cooling system.
My existing system was a Bard fuel oil furnace combined with a 2.5 ton bard air conditioner.
Since my house doesn't have gas, I decided to go all electric.
I went on the lower end of the Lennox units and had them install the CBX26UH air handler and a XP13 heat pump.
I know fuel oil prices were more expensive last year than they are this year... but the difference I payed in utilites is a huge difference.
This represents the months of December - March (4 months of bills)
Last year when I had fuel oil heating I payed $456.95 in electricity and $2206.33 in fuel oil for a total of $2663.28
This year I payed a total of $1117.22 in electricity.
That is a difference of $1546.06
Woot!
Congrats.
Imagine what you would've saved with a 16 or 19 SEER system!
How tall are you Private???!!!!
Probably another $300 over the winter. The price difference installing the higher efficiency would have been substantially higher though. I think the biggest difference was getting rid of that oil. He's still paying over $250 a month in utility costs for a 2.5 ton heat pump which is probably still a bit on the high side. Depending on where he lives. Hopefully for that price, somewhere cold and not Texas. I would focus on insulation and sealing the house up. I'll bet you can almost achieve the same results of a higher SEER unit by doing these things for probably 1/4 of the cost.
I like DIY'ers. They pay better to fix.
I live in ohio and we did have a pretty cold winter.... but in all reality... my electric bill was over 100 a month when I was heating with fuel oil.. so my heating averaged about 160 a month
