    Time builder what do you think about those pilots that flew over their destination at 37,000 FT.? They had to be sleeping even if they were talking and didn't hear air traffic controll they would would have seen on their DME it was about time for a hand off.

    I think they would have to have been in a fistfight to not have all the cues there are to let them know.

    The radio: many pilots do not rely on headsets in these planes, and instead use the cockpit speaker. For example, the Lear cockpit is very loud from wind noise, and the window is close to your head so there is very little room for a headset. With a quieter cockpit, and using the speaker, Center was trying to raise them repeatedly when they did not respond to the handoff to MSP. Even a headset around your neck can still be pretty loud, too.

    Nav display: I don't know a pilot who does not "occasionally" look at the nav display.

    Dispatch line: usually, an incoming communication from your "company" (the dispatch dept) is announced by some sort of sound or chime.

    Cabin line: the stews (yeah, I'm still politically incorrect) were concerned and trying to call the cockpit. Even from the other side of the (now) locked door, they probably would have heard the sounds of a real argument.


    Naw, these guys started with agreeing for one to take a nap, and the other fell asleep by accident. There is only a 30 minute loop on the old cockpit recorders, so there is only the last 30 minutes where they are talking to center and explaining this way, and doing the same to company and approach control, and running the normal checklists for landing. Newer recorders would have the silence and the radio calls going unheeded.

    Here is an episode shot of the car as driven in "Kill Ari 2."



    The NCIS fansite I found mentions an interesting point about these cars that I had forgotten: the frame is wood, and the wood deteriorates over time and that has caused many of the cars to be junked and not restored.
