Since a funny (?) story helps to strengthen the immune system, I will tell you my "O2" story.

I was flying with another pilot in a Lear 35a. Nice little bizjet.

Anyway, I have two young boys and their grandpa in the back. Picked 'em up at Teterboro NJ, and we flew them down to Tampa.

About fifteen minutes out, we get cleared down to 11,000. Low enough to think about the landing we will make, and still high enough that we can still go very fast, because below 10,000 we (aircraft) have a 250 knot speed limit.

So, one thing about the Lear is that cabin pressure enters at the rear of the cabin, and the pressure is controlled by outflow valves in front of our instrument panel, so all of the air that is in the back of the plane leaves by going by US first, in the front of the plane.

Well, at one point, Grandpa lets loose with about 50 years of methane and various other aspects of decaying alimentary particles.

I was raised on a farm, and even I started to gag. Almost by instinct, we BOTH reached for our O2 masks, and had them on in a moment. I cranked my regulator FULL OPEN.

Well, it WAS an emergency.....

No, grandpa seemed to be completely oblivious, and the boys were BEHIND him, so they never knew it had happened.

You know it's one thing to have a plan and then to execute it, but quite another to make a plan where YOU are the execution, literally.

We should all have a heart filled with gratitude.

The 35a IS a fun airplane to fly. It is one of the few business jets that is truly a "high performance aircraft," not by FAA definition, but by the fact that it has a lot more power than it needs.

The 20 series Lear is even more so, a little rocket that you strap yourself into. Not too many operators left for these, though. The 20 series guys joke that they are "fuel critical" every time they take off, because the non-turbofan engines produce so much power and drink so much Jet A that they use a lot of fuel just to taxi to the runway!

The one most salient thing I learned from jets is that it is a better lifestyle to be in the back, as opposed to the front of the airplane.

I have an aerobatic lesson in an Extra 300 [Southeastern Aerobatics] scheduled for the 18th of this month. I am really looking forward to it. After my lesson, I have my Wife talked into a short ride in it afterwards.
