I agree. I've been busy. All that heat from lighting in retail makes even cool days HOT inside a store. No shortage of calls!

My brother updated his lighting in his warehouse last year from T12's to T8's and his electrical bill has gone down $500 a month!!

There are many ways to save money off the bills, as long as the investment is not so large to cancel out the benefits.

About 80% of heat in retail comes from lighting, especially those teenage, "edgy" stores that use high intensity halogen mini-spots.

His was the old T12's with F32 lamps. Each lamp and ballast was like having an electric heater running. The heat gain was incredible. Even an hour after you turn off the lights the ballasts were pretty warm. The new T8 lamps are brighter and yet cold to the touch and the ballasts are electronic, so they are so cool, you have to open up each trougher to see if there is a ballast in there. I got him lights and ballasts at cost and had one of my buddies install them, so he got a $16,000 retrofit for $1400. Guess its one of the few times he was happy to have me as a brother. It has paid for itself 5 times over in the last year.

I feel guilty, I have been a member here for a few years, but I always go to the refer, job, training, and wall of shame forums. This week is the first time I have come to the general forum. I had no idea of what FCS was going through. My boys are alittle younger than your son, mine are 3 and 5. They are just getting into star wars, they are frequently going to sleep now with Return of the Jedi playng in they're rooms. Its kind of neat that 30 yrs after I was crazed about star wars, my three year old is asking me about Luke Skywalker and Yoda. I should have held onto all the action figures and veichles I had as a kid. Kids are awesome, my boys have really changed the ways that I see things. My life is no longer just about me. If you asked me 10 yrs ago, what my goals in life were, I might have put some kind of dollar figure, or material posessions as a goal. Now it is to raise my sons into well educated young men. I hope to raise them with more common sense than I have shown, more maturity, and that they are just all around better people than I have been. If I can do that, or atleast be here long enough to lay the foundation for those things, everything else will be gravy.

I gotta agree with you. Those are great goals for ANY man, to leave the world better than you found it, and changing it back to the vision of the Founders and God. Kudos to you!

As some friends of Bill W. say.....'close down the day with an attitude of gratitude and do an inventory check to see if you contributed more to the world today than you took out'......
You'll do very well as will your boys with your outlook....
