Thursday, I took Boy#1 deer hunting for the first time.

PA has a Youth only, antlerless deer season for 3 days in October, so I got some extra doe tags and took a day off work to take him out.

If I was ever that fidgety, it's a wonder I EVER saw a deer when I was that age. I don't think that he sat still for 2 consecutive minutes all day long.

We saw a grand total of ONE deer all day long. It was a doe.

    Now, for the BAD news....

He set up for the shot..

    Aimed...

    Shot...

Bullet hit a twig and deflected and the deer took off for parts unknown.

Tough break, but that's why they call it hunting and not killing. He's cool with it and is excited for "Deer Day" or the Monday after Thanksgiving which is opening day of rifle season and his next opportunity to hunt deer.

Sounds like a good time nonetheless.
