    JP.....I'm disappointed.....
No hearing protection on you and you in the HVAC trade should know better. You got boys. Yer gonna need a 6" outlet (depending on equivalent length ductwork static pressure drop) with a backward inclined fan coupled to an explosion proof motor!!!

    HUH??? I'm sorry, I can't hear ya.....

My ears are shot, and it was a wet saw. I was wearing eyes until he came over to help. He is wearing mine. His eyes are more important than mine are.

The rental was $85 for the drill and the bit. Would have been cheaper, but I had a service call and couldn't return it before the rental place closed. Probably about half of that cost had I been able to return it.

Aaron has a pretty nice beard going for being 11, doesn't he???

I'm somewhat torn on the idea of my boys going into the trades.

Yes, the trade has been good to me. It supports my family as a sole wage earner (my wife stays home) and it allows us to buy a few extras from time to time.

That said, it has not been at all kind to my body.

Besides the aforementioned hearing damage, most of which took place before I ever thought of using hearing protection, I've got knee and shoulder problems, back problems, a hernia that was repaired 2 years ago this fall and I'm only 37 years old. Not to mention exposure to asbestos and all of the other, wonderful, probably carcinogenic chemicals that we deal with on a regular basis.

If they decide that this is to be their career, I WILL train them and train them RIGHT, but I will urge them away from it as long as I can.

I'm going to be a crippled old man, long before I'm truly old and there is no amount of pay that can compensate for that fact.

    Yah I hear ya JP....
4 knee operations and a back that allows my legs to go numb after a half hour upright or in any other sitting/slouching position. I am being pushed by Brenda to get hearing aids and I also used to 'pack in 2" asbestos cloth' whilst rewelding the SS spud in between the two walls of a DeLaval Dairy Tank. I would ignite the expanded urethane with the O/A torch and breath the combination of that and Chlorine/phosgene (R12) trying to silver solder the copper inlet to SS spud on the tank under it. (ignited expanded urethane black smoke is one step away from Cyanide gas!!!) I had no room for my head and even had to look sideways and use a mirror to weld with the silver dripping in my face at times. I did one tank and you guys know how long it takes to prep a silver joint......I lost count at 38 tries......but I had the tank on line at 5 o'clock milking.....couldn't f$%^ing breath, but the tank was fixed. I fixed over 20 of them like that! Complete GD idiot. If I ever caught a worker or kid of mine doing that today, I'd punch the customer first for asking for it then reprimand the worker.

'Morning Bret and everyone. Doug, you planning on continuing to terrorize us until somebody posts a picture of Sarah? Good man! JP, love the way you're raising your kid. Have you already taken him out hunting?
