I've seen some reports on these books/movies etc but am not sure what it's all about. More of 'Hardy Boys' (boy, now I'm dating myself eh?) type book ain't it?

Yup all done the ocean loops for now.....got maybe another 100 ton one for a lady from San Fran that bought 5 waterfront properties and wants to heat/cool all of them plus pools and a couple of greenhouses........but she is converting a apartment block in Manhattan to condos right now so we may miss the 'legal window' for putting $hit in the ocean ..... then catch $hit 'cause from her for not doing it in the spawning season and suffering a $2M fine......go figger eh?

    The Hardy Boys they aren't.

Basically, 2 children (11-18) from each district in the country are drawn to compete in The Hunger Games. These are, essentially, a televised fight to the death.

A young girl volunteers to take her sister's place and the books follow her in the games, the second game she gets forced into and what follows. (Don't want to spoil anything for Bret) There's also a 'love triangle' story involved between the main character and 2 young men.

I was initially hesitant to let my son read them. They're pretty violent in parts.

I'm probably gonna get beat for what I'm about to say but %$#@ it here goes.......
Men for all of my adult life (started with burning their bras) have been told by woman the we are inadequate, inept, insensitive, too violent and too aggressive.......for a woman, when they get overwhelmed, they turn on the tears.....it's the customary way that women react and they are NOW heaped with sympathy and understanding and positive reinforcement. With men, when we are overwhelmed by our situations, we challenge/surmount/compete/fix/clobber it and society tells us we are abusive, aggressive, violent and our behavior is unacceptable to the point where we are completely belittled for it. Now, maybe they're right and although we don't have a week a month excused to be an a$$hole like the women do, maybe in another 30000000 years we will be able to nurse and mother our offspring and all be sensitive millennium men!!!! Until then, I chose to be a 'traditional' man burping and farting and cussing and 'killing the meat' for tonight's dinner after I pick up some shiny mechanical $hit to fiddle and gadget with....
The absolute 'perfect raising of a child (boy or girl) is that diverse input from the tough and challenging man that fixes things and 'builds the cave' for the family and the soft, understanding and nurturing side of the mother to balance the other side. Those two diverse inputs are what give your/our kids ALL the TOOLS FOR THEIR LIFE TOOLBOX and to either eliminate one side or expect the government or daycare to do any of it for us is folly.
    IMHO.......SHOOT AWAY.....
I'll put my soap box away now.....

PS.....the above is one of the reasons I admire both what JP and Bret do so much.......they're getting some damned good toolboxes already.....

Good going, but be careful and stay frosty, heat is always harder on folks who are under the weather a tad Glad you've got a doable setup in the garage.

'Morning Bret and everyone. By the way, Doug made some good points there. When the Mrs. and I have kids, boys or girls, they'll learn how to fix stuff and how to shoot/hunt. After that, if she wants to send'em for piano lessons, I won't come to their defense

    I couldn't agree more.

I'm a neanderthal man in many respects and I'm trying to train my boys to be the same in certain respects.

I'm also trying to teach them to be better than I am where I think that I'm weak.

My God.....look what at the dog dragged in!!!
I always get a kick out of the weather reports when we are in the USA in January at the AHR..... "and we have a ton of cold arctic air being sent down from Canada the will envelope the Chicago......"
Like we round up a couple gazzillion cu.ft. of arctic air, box it up and send it.....so we may as well be blamed for the heat too.......
Take care Frank.....good to hear from you..
