    Morning from Leipzig Germany......
Spent the last 5 days in Paris (@#$^ing expensive and no, the food's NOT that good) then up to Dieppe, Juno Beach, Ypres, Passchendaele, Sommes and Vimy. I haven't shed that many tears since I buried my parents.
Guys.....Passchendaele....240,000 Allies and 239,000 Germans dead, wounded or missing in 3 months of the most he11ful mess you've ever seen. I stood in a cemetery and memorial of 40,000 that didn't even have 10% of those whom it represented underground.90% of the men were blown to smithereens and there is even a picture of Passchendaele of a horse blown up into a tree. The annihilation of men was unbelievable and many died of disease from the rotting flesh and blood from their comrades. One general traveling to the front and looking out upon the battlefield sat down and openly wept.."what kind of hell hole did we send our young men into"?
Many, many graves are inscribed "Canadian/German/British/French Soldier known only unto God"
In those many fields in Belgium, 100 years after the start of the WW1, last year they still removed 300,000 lbs of bombs/ordinances!

Ypres was very, very humbling as well and as I put Poppies on all monuments and Canadian Memorials, I was told of the first ingenuity of the Canucks as a "new country". They were the ones after all the French were wiped out by gas in the 3rd battle of Ypres that figured out that the ammonia from a man's urine would help to neutralize the Chlorine gas. Many, many died as they were so scared they could not urinate and thus choked to death. There are many stories of corpses where men ripped out their own cheeks and throats trying to get air.....

Vimy was a whole other story but I'd probably bore you Muricans as this was the real coming of age of Canada as a autonomous country and gained it as a signatory of the Treaty of Versailles. @#$^ did they kick ass......4 new technologies, and they destroyed the Germans....literally confused and overtook them in one friggin day....to which the French and Brits could not achieve for months and months.....Hoo Ra.
The Memorial is un-bloody believable and is now just short of 100 years old.....it's also got 3 Lockharts on it that I knew nothing about. One more is on the Menin gates.....

I'll maybe pay for the higher speed internet and post some pics...

It's off my bucket list but I gotta tell you guys......I have never ever been humbled as when walking in those battlefields..... That is also where the poem "In Flanders Fields" written by a Canadian doctor John McRae. Google it and you'll find (if you don't know already) why the majority of the world where poppies on 11/11/11. They still grow there......almost as a representative of the blood spilled.
I want to go back and spend more time

'Evening Bret and everyone.. I really need to figure out a good way to organize my stuff... The shelving the way it is wastes a lot of space and I'll have to do a lot of digging to get to some of the tools that I use on a regular basis.
