'Morning Bret and everyone. Another yardwork day planned. Might do some wrenching on the car - figure out whether the horn died on me or it was the relay. Gotta take off the bumper for that

I'd take a whipping over wrenching on much of anything except for a refrigeration system.
That said, I've had the distinct (dis)pleasure of having to tear a Briggs and Stratton down this past week.
Bent intake valve push rod.
It has had me on the verge of breakdown all week.
afternoon all

Good morning, Bret and everyone!
On Saturday, I rode 16 miles on the bike. 12 miles yesterday. I've been riding because of the warmer weather (on the bike you get a nice breeze that's hard to come by when you run) and the fact that I have managed to irritate my right hip flexor tendon, which really hampers your running but not the biking. I haven't spend so much time pedaling suince I was 10 years old, so that's kind of neat to get that "days of future past" effect.

'Morning Bret and everyone. My yesterday's post disappeared... Art, it's a 99 Civic, got it about a year ago, under 60,000mi, stick shift, body in great condition - rarer than hen's teeth.. Solid, reliable car that every newstand in North America carries cheap replacement parts for.
Btw it turned out it was the el-cheapo relay that went bad on it. $5 to replace and now I can start waking up the idiots who drift into my lane, again. Running something similar to a Stebel Nautilus (look it up on youtube). Didn't like the stock, polite, Japanese "meep meep" horn lol
JP - For small engines, I just do the basics - oil/filter/sparkplug changes, cable tension, blade sharpening, that sort of stuff.. For anything else, I got a good small engine guy.
I have Julie's Park Avenue. She inherited it from her father, when he passed in 2002.
When he bought the car, he had the dealer replace the stock horn. It's almost a locomotive sound. I don't use it cause it can scare people.

Spent about two weeks shuffling the bike around the garage and wondering why I had actually spent money on a new bike.
Managed to get 10 and change in yesterday. A nice combination of side roads and some jeep and ATV trails. I still struggle with that slick snot mud. Whoo hoo it's tricksy when you hit it coming down a hill in a hurry.
Art, assuming you have a smartphone, have you tried the MapMyRide app? Works for running, too.
I like it.
I haven't found anyone that I can really trust, yet. Had a neighbor who did decent work, but we moved and kind of lost touch.
Local shops want upwards of $200 for a lawn tractor service call. I'm viewing this as something of a personal challenge. I have long said that I can fix any damned thing and I'm fixing to prove it if to nobody but myself.
Ordered the parts today. They'll be in tomorrow sometime and, if work permits, I'll be wrenching on it tomorrow evening.
bent value ? take? getting new seat also?

Not the valve, Bret. Just the lifter rod. Between camshaft and rocker arm.
After talking to the tech/counter guy at the parts shop today, I may wind up putting a whole new head on the engine anyway.
He told me to check the guides in the head. They look OK to me so I'm going to proceed with the parts replacement as it stands and, if the lifter bends again, I'm just ordering another new rod and a new head.
Something about the valve sticking in the guide and causing the push rod to bend.
I'm also going to start feeding it a very light amount of oil in the fuel as a preventive for that very problem.
Briggs used to make a great service book that covered the generalities of all their engines. At that time, the valves were all in the block. Typically, the follower rods were different lengths for the intake and exhaust. Of course, that goes back over thirty years...
When I check a valve, I look for the amount of axial play when the valve is in the open position. Since you have disassembled the head, you just stick the valve in to where it would be when open, and then wiggle. The most exacting method is to put a dial indicator on it and use the mfg tolerance for play.
For my running and biking I use an app called Runkeeper. It shows time, distance, speed, and route.
Good morning, Bret and everyone!

Took her back to the ER yesterday and they performed the blood patch and she no longer gets worse when she stands up. Now it's about seeing if the original headache has gone away or not. We will be seeing how it is after she wakes up today and doesn't have any pain meds in her. I'm optimistic she will be back up running in a day or two.

Any one else here have a HOA they sick of .
The HOA broad force a management company on the neighbor hood and now we have everybody at each others throats. The company verbally promised them the world as soon as the HOA broad sing the Management Company didn't deliver.

'Morning Bret and everyone. JP, I'm real lucky to have found this guy through my neighbor. While I like wrenching, some things just take up too much of my time and I'd rather be doing some work on my guns than on yard machines. Bret, I'd do whatever I can to stay the **** out of a community run by an HOA or a condo board. You know which types seem to run those shows.. Kinda like BoD's for many clubs. Fortunately, we don't have too many HOA-controlled housing communities but we have plenty of condo boards to make up for it.

Good Morning to all also! I'm up early and am going back to the last house I audited to do some follow-up. Wife is feeling so good she is planning on going back to work today. I may even call a couple of my old friends up later and have that beer together they've been wanting to have with me for a while!
