Just got back from taking the boys to see The Hobbit 2. The Desolation of Smaug.

Cool movie. Another great cliff-hanger. Special effects are great. Still can't figure out where some of the new sub-plots came from. Gonna have to dig that book back out. Didn't I swear I was going to re-read it after the last Hobbit movie? Never got around to it...

Oh well. It's still a fun movie.

'Morning Bret and everyone. Hobbit 2 was definitely better than the first one. A lot of those subplots got pulled from where the Sun don't shine.. The addition of the elf-chick and having Legolas throughout the movie was mostly to appeal to the teenage girl segment of the audience.

From what I remember from my Doogie Howser days, this would be a biological breakdown process using anaerobic bacteria, correct?

'Evening Bret and everyone and Happy New Year! All the best in 2014! One big bomb is that my wife and I decided to emigrate. My wife can have better work opportunities in her old country (been LOUSY for her over here) and I can make good coin doing my old job. Add to that the fact that she already owns a nice condo down there while I'd have had to come up with a million tax-free to eventually own a home over here (insane purchase price + mortgage interest) and it makes financial sense. I can get by with the language and I'd be working with Canadian clients anyway. Had to turn down offers from 3 union shops so far but those offers only started coming in after we already set our plan in motion after more than half a year of big fat nothing and all of cooling season already being over (Murphy's law ftw). She would have still ended up being stuck at home or working jobs I'm glad I left behind over a decade ago.

Its a real pain in the arse trying to get going in this industry (least here in Canada it is). Some of these community colleges pump out more grads than their geographical location has a need for. Then they sit down every few years to have a meeting over why all their grads go for Toronto (a semi-saturated market that is filling quickly with apprentices) and Alberta. I was lucky to find my job when I started there 2 years ago. I also got into this industry 4 years ago when HVAC was just starting to have its demand for new blood. But fast forward 3 years later and everyone and their dog wants into it. Though they seriously need to all stop using the same resume format (hint hint kiddies-when you and your classmates all have the same resume no one stands out and they all just get deleted).

    All the best man.

    Good morning, Bret and everyone!

I guess Mike Holmes was successful in generating interest in the trades, eh?

'Morning Bret and everyone. Thanks for the good wishes. Yeah, I wish I made my decision to get in the trade (at least) a couple of years before, but that's 20/20 hindsight. Bret, the holidays can definitely get stressful. Relax a bit and you'll be back up and running. -25C/-13F here. At least the snow's been light.
