    Bret,
Original location, top of my head at the part. (1996) And I always and still have a full head of hair. It metastasized to both lungs exactly 5 years later. (2000) Very bad on my left side, still feel constant pressure today from surgery, right side small nodule 2mm. The vaccine was made from the tumor removed from my left lung tissue. The entire lower lobe removed.
Vaccine made by A-Vax which was created by Dr Berd while at Jefferson in Philly. This was a FDA approved treatment but still in the trial stage. It was free. It never did reach approval in the US. I believe it was permitted for sale in Australia and I think parts of Europe.

Treatment was like in the movies. I received shots for 6 straight weeks in a the doctor's lab at 10th & Walnut streets on the 10th floor. It was nothing like you'd see in a hospital. The plan was to see if the vaccine would kill off the 2mm nodule on the right lung within 6 mo. It almost worked as it did not increase in size. But then the FDA shutdown Berd's trial's. He recommended surgery. Post surgery ( 2nd surgery ) eval of the nodule showed white blood cells attacking the nodule. It would of worked & did work as evidence I am cancer free since 7/24/01. I had 5 years worth of CT scans through 2006. Maybe 14? Dr Berd is one of the top oncologist treating melanoma in the US. I was very lucky to have been invited into his trial. I never could of lived thru kemo. The thought of it makes me ill. Co-workers wrote me off for dead. But I only missed 6 weeks after each surgery. Not many people outside of my immediate family know my story.

Keep up the spirit. I'll do the same. And thanks for the big reply!

A few gents from other places may be flying in to visit.
Wish they didn't pick the coldest month of the year to have this event.

I agree......man does that wind blow cold there in Chicago.....
After wearing a pair of coveralls and Tuff Duck clothes/down vest for 2 months then going to this thing and wearing metra-sexual pants and golf shirts with Sunday go to meeting shoes.....I fricking freeze to death....
The elevated level of lard and cholesterol in my blood after eating in Uno Duos Pizza or Giordano's is helpful though...

She just finished her second Avastin treatment, and got two units yesterday because her h&h had dropped too low. It will take some time to see if the Avastin is able to limit the growth of new blood supplies to the tumor.

Tell her to hang in there......hopefully you guys can spend some time together this weekend where she's feeling a little better with the blood infusion.....
I've donated blood since I was 16 years old.....every 55 days......now I'm older it knocks my energy level (not all the time??) down for the next weekend ride then I feel like a million bucks....in about 4-5 days....
I think everyone that is able to donate, should, it's painless and a great thing to do so others can benefit......there is NO substitute for needed blood....none....what a great gift.....
    Anyways....I'll put my soapbox away....

    Good morning, Bret and everyone!

    Thanks, Doug.

I have donated a gallon or so since 1995. You aren't allowed to do it when you fly, and I can't have the downtime away from climbing a 28 foot ladder almost daily, and I don't want to have a moment of weakness on the ladder.

She does feel better today, though!
