Doug is opining, as nearly as I can tell, that terrorism will continue unless we change our foreign policy. My point is that no other nation has a better policy toward the fomenting of freedom and a dissent against tyranny than the USA.

This idea is that we somehow have brought terrorism on ourselves is a fallacious argument based on several ideas, such as, the terrorists have a moral authority to engage in terror because of a perception they hold based on a (flawed) doctrine, and that this perception is our fault, and that if WE change our policy toward friendly nations such as Israel, that terrorism will somehow vanish from our midst.

Evil will not vanish due a change in foreign policy. It will simply move to become the law of our land. This is already afoot in movements to integrate Sharia into our justice system.

No, Virginia, terrorism is not "our" fault. It is due to evil, and we must move to restrain evil, just like we have always done.

I agree that the U.S. is in no way responsible for Islamic terrorism worldwide or even against Americans. However, the U.S. was actually one of the last countries in the Northern Hemisphere to abolish slavery for Africans.

Slavery has existed for over 8,000 years and still exists. The U.S. is not lily white when it comes to slavery, but we certainly have no reason for today's generations of Americans to feel guilt over what some of our ancestry did that was being corrected even before any of us were born.

If you are talking about the Emancipation Proclamation, then yes. I am talking about the fact that America was moving toward abolition, and freeing its slaves, from the time it was founded. No other nation did that.

    Good morning Brett.
I recently read a facinating article from the New York Times, "How Slavery Really Ended in America"
    at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/03/ma...1&ref=magazine
The Emancipation Proclaimation was an act of war, not an act of mercy.
