'Morning Bret and everyone.. Teeth saga continues.. Looks like I might need a root canal too.. Since I don't have another $1500-2000 lying around, I'll see if I can do it through the local university's dental school. The level of care is well-reviewed and I'd expect for it to be closer to the $600 ballpark.
afternoon Bret, Tip & all...just got back from camping. Tired but had a blast !

I got an entire set of braces, with five years of checks, at the Penn Dental School.

Hey Tip, ACGC, MR, Bret, Art, JP……..from Canada eh…..
Sounds like everyone is trudging the happy road to destiny…..
Serena (middle daughter, the nurse) is with her boyfriend in their Cessna 185 floatplane and heading up to Alaska from Vancouver Island and stopping in on all the lakes in between to drop a line in and HOPEFULLY avoid the Grizzlies. Mike is deadly with a rifle and they took a couple (including a buffalo gun) so they should be OK. They took it out to try a couple days before and Serena said you could see the shock wave off of it…..450 grain bullet. They are almost at the top of the province so just east of the panhandle……damn thieving yanks!!! Bottom line is 'daddy' gets to worry for another two weeks…..man I can't believe what this generation is able to experience. They've got a 'spot' Art, so I can track 'em. They didn't move all day yesterday from the lake so I was getting worried he'd ditched on landing as they didn't phone us on Sat Phone…..but the weather is low up there so they got held on the ground I guess.
Hang in there Tip…..

Sounds like a fantastic adventure for them, Doug.
Them BIG rifles are a whole 'nother world to shoot. The shooter can take almost as much punishment as the thing being shot. Would it surprise you at all that I keep looking at them with a hungry eye? I just want one..
Good morning, Bret and everyone!

JP….nice thing about being older…..it's got %@^$ all to do with need and all to do with want…..I've buried so many friends in the last few years that 'didn't quite get there yet' in order to feel they were worthy to get [fill in the blank, vette, rifle, bike, etc]. Short time here, long time dead. I realize you have to live within our means (except for the pigs in Ottawa/Washington) but it's amazing, especially for men/breadwinners, that we never feel we are worth it. Thank God my wife pushed me to buy that first bike after my Dad died after Mom did……I'd still be in the office/road doing up quotes/low valued service calls.
Speaking of that…..sold a bike so new one on the way…….http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/en/...carbon#builder
JP…..SC are the best mountain bike on earth……let me know if/when you want one as I can get you wholesale price on them…..believe me you'll be blown away at what they can do..

Good morning, Bret and everyone!
My bike is a cheap Chinese Vertical that I bought at Target in the 90's because the price was so low, and I hadn't owned a bike for some 20 years.
The SC sure is a beauty, though.

'Morning Bret and everyone. Doug, that sounds like a great adventure. I hope they have a blast I'm more of a believer in shot placement, but for me, it's the shooting that's the hobby/labour of love, so I can make a pretty quick snap shot on target. 308 also has less recoil if you need a followup shot. The only thing I wouldn't fully trust it with would be polar bears. While I was working in those parts, our chasers either had something in 30-06 or just the trusty ol' 12 gauge with a good supply of slugs.
Art, the biggest problem with the university dental school is the time. Applications start next month and it may take 3-4 of months before they can treat me. For now, the tooth is not complaining on its own (only if exposed to cold liquids), but whether it will hold on for 3-4 months is anybody's guess.

I'm right there with you, Doug.
Unfortunately, we spent too long living above our means and, now, have to spend a little time living below them until we can start living within them...
Does that make sense?
IF I only knew then what I know now... Oh well. Time waits for no man.
Working towards an all-cash, no credit lifestyle, but it is extremely challenging sometimes.
I have an opportunity on the horizon to increase my income with very little extra effort, so that ought to help us get a leg up.
I would take a 12 gauge against anything on the north american continent and better than 95% of game, worldwide. While it wouldn't be my preference for all of them, it would get the job done.
Buffalo, Rhino, Hippo and Elephant are about the only game animals that I wouldn't be almost 100% confident aiming a 12 gauge slug at and dropping the hammer.
Good morning, Bret and everyone!

'Morning Bret and everyone. Art, for now I think I can, but if it gets worse, it'll have to be done on emergency basis.. Giving myself 70% chance lol JP, I'd still be more comfortable in polar bear country with 375h&h, but I wouldn't kick 30-06 outta the bed either Good luck with that opportunity!
