i worked 12 hours, went to the bar to fix the fryer, went to daughters to help move furniture fix her furnace and clean a drain, fix other daughters flat tire came home for thanksgiving dinner and read for about one hour of oil heating and now watching futbol and this was a very easy day for me!
i am at .0000000000000002in my career!

I tried to catch up on the thread and gave up after about 1100 posts, sorry.

The eye surgery will go well, I just know it ! Hey, I have had Bifocals for 12 years if all you need are reading glasses I will be jealouse.

I had to go look up the above (post #1007) just to give all the slackers like me a hard time. We better step it up, we only have 2 years to get the post count on here to my projected 65,000. Yea, I know, I am not much help.

Dug, we learn because we see the value in doing so ( I am just a tiny bit younger than you). The "youngin'" only sees it as "having to" at this point.

Well I've not been on this thread for a while and finally after 3 months in palliative care, my father in law has passed on. What started in the kidney slowly migrated everywhere else. what is especially hard is that his brain was still as sharp as ever and he was a very smart man. It seems that you can be very close to death, as he was, many times and seemingly will himself back to the point where we would think he could go home. Just an illusion but it confounds me.

Now to deal with a memory deficient mom in law who has been throwing out important papers and not remembering...........ahhhh, the joys of aging parents.

The biggest difficulty here is learning without context - without being able to put my hands on the equipment in question (especially after reading a publication more meant for engineers than mechanics). It becomes fun when there's a problem that needs to be solved (or a way of solving problems already encountered, to be found) - then reading stops being a chore and becomes a tool. Fortunately a couple of gents on this forum came up with some pretty decent sources of information as a lot of my time was wasted on flak - promotional materials by this or that manufacturer. Danfoss actually came up with a very educational lecture that was more about education than promotion (even though it promoted some of the advantages of their equipment).

Mike, I'm sorry about your loss. Hang in there, be there for your wife and things will get better. Might want to consider long-term care options (just raising the possibility as I'm short on background info and I'd be the last person to consult on these matters).

My sister's mother in law has dementia too. The important thing is to get the right care as needed, and be grateful for the time you had as they creep toward their finish line.

Great news Bret! Crossing off one item at a time

Some updates.. The job situation's still up in the air but there might be an opening, so it's being reviewed. We might know something as early as Monday. Found some technical literature on VFD's that doesn't double as a cure for insomnia, so that part's going well even though I've already gone above and beyond what they expected of me (for now). Shooting .22LR's the best bang for the buck entertainment-wise (pun intended)

I loved the .22 I had on the farm. It was a JC Higgins (a Sears branded Remington, I think) and it was great! Later, at the academy, I used a nice Mossberg 40X on the 50' range.

'Morning Bret and everyone. Art, I got a Mk II as it's dead-accurate and dirt-cheap, perfect to learn on and for club-level competition. Still looking for the right stuff to feed her (you know how finicky .22LR's are). Got a very nice 50yd, 11 port indoor facility.
