He has been out squirrel hunting with me and has taken a squirrel or two. We will try a little time in the deer stand this fall, but he isn't ready to shoot one with a bow, yet.
PA has a special youth season in mid october and we can take a gun. Maybe then...
Bret, that arrow isn't in flight, it is stuck in the back of the first arrow. A perfect "robin hood" In 30 years of shooting, it was my first.
Aaron and I were shooting at 20 yards. My arrows have the green fletchings. Aaron's are orange.
'Mornin Bret and everyone. JP, that's real cool. What calibers has Aaron shot already? If he's ready to handle a deer rifle at that age, he must have had a pretty good background
Good morning, Bret and everyone!

Started him at 5 with a .22
He's shot a .22 handgun and rifle, owns a .22, a .410 and 20 gauge shotgun.
He has also shot my 6mm, .30-30, .38 special, and 12 gauge.
I'm debating between taking the 6mm and the .30-30 for deer. The 6mm is a bit heavier rifle (actual gun weight wise) while the .30-30 is an heirloom rifle and I would LOVE for the boy to shoot his first deer with his great-grandfather's rifle.
'Night everyone Came back from the range, this time I got to send a few in the general direction of the backstop (good news: no holes in the walls or ceiling ) - IPSC night. Lots of fun.
That's good news, Bob. Got some coming from this direction.
JP: If it's from the stand, with the rifle on a rest, the weight shouldn't matter and would even moderate the recoil. The sentimentalist in me votes for the 6mm. You definitely got Aaron off on a good path. Keep it up!
Good morning, Bret and everyone!
