Over here, anything full-auto is prohibited. If even an air rifle looks like an AK, it's prohibited. That's why 7.62x39 shooters are mostly confined to the SKS and the 858. There's the XCR, but my rectum hurts just thinking about the $2500ish price tag. That's also the price point of most bullpups that shoot rifle calibers, especially if they're non-restricted (treated as hunting rifles, don't have to register them, you can put'em on a truck rack as long as they're unloaded). AR's are "restricted," treated as pistols and SBR's, so you can't take them anywhere but you can get a permit to take them directly to the range and back, have to be unloaded, locked away from ammo and trigger-locked. Can't even make a detour to the store on the way back from the range. My "one fine day" arsenal will include the following:

    1) A few SKS'.. You can't eat just one and they're dirt-cheap in Canada.. Currently got 2, they cost me less than $300 combined
    2) 700 - eventually I wanna get into precision shooting [a few years from now]
    3) My Mk II G - already got the Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 on it
    4) A 10/22 as a zombie gun (also not high on my priority list as I already own a .22LR rifle)
    5) The Norc Type-97 bullpup (if they don't allow it come spring or I can't get my hands on one due to a demand overload, I'll just go with a domestic AR and deal with the tighter regulations)
    6) An 858 variant, probably in SBR configuration, in 7.62x39, adapted to take XCR-L mags (XCR-L is treated as a pistol.. In Canada center fire rifle mags are restricted to 5rds, pistol mags [rim and ctr] are restricted to 10rds), thinking 11.8 or 7.5" barrel
    7) A Shadow for action shooting
    8) An 870 to join the shadow and the Type-97 for 3 gun events
    9) A TT-33 because it's an awesome little pistol
    10) A 1911, do I even need to explain myself?

A couple of positives in Canadian firearm laws. There are no waiting periods for long guns. If you have a license, you can go to the gun store with a truck and you can load it with guns. Long guns don't have to be registered. Even though we do have to register pistols, SBR's and some "evil" black rifles, we don't have to pay for it. I know you guys had some weird restrictions on pistol grips, muzzle breaks and whatnot.. We can accessorize our long guns any way we want as long as we keep the barrel over 18.5" and it stays semi-auto. By the way, while our mags are neutered, I don't think a psycho or a hardened criminal would lose sleep over unneutering a mag and turning it into a "prohibited device".

    P.S. Congrats on the 20G's

Ironically, the best of the bunch is the cheapest. I'd buy a Yugo in a heartbeat if I could and cream my pants if I could have an AP M64 or three. For poodles, I'd play with their M-21 If only our laws didn't ban all AK variants SKS' (Tulas, Izzys, Yugos and Norcs) are a dime a dozen... PAP M59/66 go for $400ish, and the rest in the $200 ballpark. I've got a Tula refurb and a Bubba'd Norc.

The difference between semi-automatic fire (cheap) and FULL automatic fire (expensive)

Not many people know that machine guns ARE legal in the USA. They aren't EASY to obtain as I've shown, on price alone, and that doesn't count the other steps required to obtain them.

    That's awesome.

I remember, a few years back, someone pranked one of the kids at my mother in law's house with a fake winner ticket. He thought that he won 10,000. It was pretty funny to watch him dance around for a while.

    Good morning, Bret and everyone.

JP, I think most people think full auto ownership is not possible because of the government's alien-style probing and the license fee, not to mention the cost of the weapon alone. It puts them out of the reach of everyone but the most devoted citizen.

I agree.. "Legal" but might as well be illegal. In any case it's expensive to buy, expensive to shoot. Even at semiauto rate of fire I have to budget my ammo.. While Czech/Romanian 7.62x39 milsurp is cheap enough that even reloaders buy it just for the projectiles/powder, if I got a poodle shooter, I'd have to buy a reloading kit, materials and some brass in order to afford to shoot it on semi-auto.. Automatic.. Only on government dime

Wow you guys are getting more snow than us here.. We had a dusting of maybe a cm and then it melted within hours. Now it's a bit chilly, just over -4 (probably 25F range, quick and dirty calc), but no snow yet and hoping for none until I'm back from the range

As I said, I've considered it, and it is financially out of my reach at this time, even for the "bargain" guns at $5-6k

Not to mention the costs of ammunition that Moonrunner mentioned. That stuff is CRAZY expensive anymore, and reloading components don't really make it a whole lot cheaper, honestly.

    Hmmmmmmm............ interesting.
discussion about guns. saw 'tommy gun' mentioned.
I had 1. Do not, repeat, DO NOT buy a Kahr Arms M1 Thompson sporting rifle. They are a genuine POS. Mine spent more time at Kahr than in my locker.

    Good morning, Bret and everyone!

Even though I'm on vacation, I got a text yesterday asking if I could take a no AC today in a mall store. This AM, I find I now have two calls.

I was getting bored anyway. So, I'll have some windshield time and listen to the radio.

2sac: this is basically a thread where we let Bret know that we are pulling for him, and for each other. Welcome.
