We will be 20,000 - 100,000 skilled tradesmen short in the next decade so they are advertising in California for workers.....that would be of course instead of training/hiring from within.....moron politicians....
    Whom would I contact?

It sems they have an entire list of certificates I have never heard of, and they want you to have them just to apply. They want diplomas instead of experience, apparently.

    Desired Skills & Certifications include:
    + Skilled Trade Certification
    + Post-secondary Degree or Diploma
    + First Aid Certificate
+ Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
+ Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate
+ Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness (H2S) Certificate
+ Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
    + Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
+ Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
Do you have the desired skills, work experience or certifications listed above?
If so, Oil Patch Jobs would like to connect you to international opportunities.

No wonder they can't find workers.

My state does not have an HVAC license, so I can't even say I have a "skilled trade certification."

No post secondary diploma, even though I taught a college class.

    Ah, well.

That'd be the 47% attitude and ambition level....geeze, wonder why the USA is in such a predicament with their economy.
Hang on I'll call them all and see if I can get them to come down there to pat you on the head and hold your hand.
Wonder where the heck this generation got the 'entitlement' attitude from.

I'm not sure if we need a license unless we own our own business, only EPA card.

Dont worry Doug. We will take pictures of the 401 at rush hour, winters in Manitoba, and the ultimate deterant, our gun registry.

No one will wanna move North then. We can even throw in a picture of our old Tims sizes. When I lived close to the Maine border nothing got the "Masses" angrier than our different coffee cup sizes.

How are you other grupps doing? One year older here as of yesterday. 26 now. Really hit me when I was filling out a form for a contest and they said select your age group. I was in 26-35... Right below 18-25. Ah well days go by I guess.

I'm not sure where you get that fertilizer from, Doug, but it sure is rich.

If the government authority wants to see a skilled trade certificate and we don't even have a license in my state, them please, tell me: what's the alternative?

Just following your lead there Mr. Positive.....you ever heard the joke about 'borrowing a jack'?
When you do what you did, you get what you got.
Just maintain the course.....you're doing perfect....don't change a thing....
For your information it is NOT the gov't that wants to see the TQ, it's the company that's hiring you......lots and lots of guys are being hired from foreign countries with 0 hours towards a TQ.

Did it ever cross your mind that the 'listing' is a wish list and they just MIGHT have some of the largest training facilities for skilled tradesmen in the free world in NAIT and SAIT....?(they do in HVAC/R-----500+ a year !!) You might just also be allowed to 'challenge the TQ' or sign up to be apprenticed since even an apprentice is well over $100,000/yr with experience.

Hey Fronk.....we'll let you drive the nice big warm Kenworths up with all the rig pipe on it....over the ice roads......that'll pull yer pucker string tight for 500 miles over the Dempster highway....

Should it have to "cross my mind" or should the site merely explain the dynamic?

"What I got" from the site is that Canada needs a lot of workers, but has a lot of provincial ideas (no pun intended) about how those workers are accepted. Why have a "wish list" for guys who have not applied, from countries that are going to have few of those docs?

    It makes no sense.

That is "what I gave," the frustration that there is a giant bureaucracy in place that wants a great deal of power and oversight, feels no obligation to present the real process openly, and has no awareness of the face they present to potential employees.

As I said, no wonder they can't find people.

As for me, my taxes went up last night because we cannot come to grips with the idea that our government cannot hope to keep all of the promises they have made to our "47%," the folks that working men like me will have to continue to support. The irony is that while they tax me more, there is less and less chance that I will receive even a fraction of what they claimed I will receive for those tax payments. I'm just supporting a failed socio-economic plan that favors the "takers" over the "makers."

Now Doug, despite out bumping heads, I firmly believe that you are a pretty smart feller, so you might want to get these guys on the horn and see if you can straighten them out to what the word "outreach" means, so that you can get the guys you need. At the rate my country is going, there should be a lot of people looking to avoid the "fundamental change of America" that is the current vision of our resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
