Merry Christmas Bret, Stinky, Art, Doug, Joe, Moonrunner and anyone else that I forgot.
Kiddos were up at 6:30, so I consider it a good day that I got to sleep in a bit.
Presents unwrapped and they're building Legos now.
A trip to the range a bit later to break in a young man's new shotgun later.
Trip to grandma's this evening.

This is his first "big boy" gun.
I bought him a Remington 870. For a couple reasons.
One, I've had one since I was about his age, have dragged it though every type of hunting scenario that one can imagine and maybe even done worse to it over the years and that gun just WILL NOT QUIT.
Two, it is the only pump shotgun with a left hand ejection port. If a lefty fires a right handed pump gun too fast, he'll get powder residue in his face. Been there, done that.
This particular dad is probably going to be adding a few new guns to the arsenal in the very near future....

Hey I'm a lefty too, it's always a PTA to find a good gun. I don't have any lefty guns so I use a marlin 30 30 for hunting which works well and a pump 12 for bird Which I'm not happy with. Well the wife is cranky gota go

Wifey is sleeping, here.
She was up all night doing god KNOWS what....
The 870 or an Ithaca 37 (if you can find one) make nice lefty guns. You'd need to convert the safety on the 37, but it's not a big deal.

'Morning Bret and everyone! JP, he 870's a great choice. Eventually I'll get one for when I get into trap as it's too versatile not to get. For now, still working on learning how to properly handle a rifle. Going back to the range tomorrow; they put in a target return system, thus overcoming several challenges - 50yds, low ceiling, rated for ALL calibers (.50's too). Also gonna be testing the newly modified scope mount - it was designed for mounting on a different rifle, was sitting too high on the SKS, but there was a little over 1" to play with. At least tapping aluminum's easier than case-hardened steel

The SKS is a fine rifle. Under-rated, IMO, and often lost amid the fancy AKs and ARs. It's a rough gun, not the most accurate rifle on the market, but certainly capable enough in good hands. In running thousands of rounds through mine, I've never been disappointed in its performance or its accuracy.
I've been looking at mine with an eye to installing a red dot sight...
I'm probably going to be snagging up several new guns in the very near future, here. A new handgun and a new rifle for sure before Obammy drops the hammer on cool, fun, scary-looking guns.

I got an el-cheapo DX reddot on mine.. Used an AK dovetail plate and lever mounts, but because the plate sits lower on the AK receiver, I needed to cut it down to size.. Gonna cut down the other and mount a short 2-6x scope - this SKS is being "built" for wednesday night rifle competitions at the range. Yes, I could have gone for a bolt-action .223 but the SKS is what I got and it's not like I'm competing in the nationals. The holes in the stock are for my homemade adjustable cheek rest and the stock has already been bubbad by the guy who sold me the rifle for $100ish. If you want a non-ghetto version of this mount that allows you to use your irons in an emergency, you can get the Choate mount a lot cheaper than we can.

Sold my only handgun.. Waiting for the Norc type-97 rifle to come out in the spring and needed the capital. It's a nice little bullpup based on the current issue rifle in the Chinese army but shooting 5.56 instead of their 5.8. Unfortunately, you guys can't get those thanks to Clinton.

Getting an AR platform is not an option as they're legally treated the same as handguns (have to be registered, tighter storage/transport regs, can't be taken in the bush) while many other military-origin semi-auto rifles are treated as hunting rifles. Quite a few of our laws are STUPID. By the way this Norc will be the only rifle-caliber bullpup that is "non restricted" (treated as a hunting rifle) to be had under the $3000 range - about $1000.
