Oh sorry.....I had a 'local moment'.....forgot you Muricans don't know there's life beyond the 49th parallel.....(That's the USA/Canadian border latitude..) and the abbreviation for Alberta (that's a province in Canada that supplies you Muricans with 20% of your oil and 'bout 10% of your natural gas) is alta. Just like IL.
The largest reserve of oil on the planet is the 'Athabasca Oil Sands' and it is often referred to as the 'oil patch'. It's mainly centered in Fort McMurray.....nicknamed Fort Mc MONEY...see below.
A reefer mechanic with is TQ (trade qualification....a compulsory nationwide 4 year apprenticeship) will START at $150,000/yr.....and be flown in and out on 2 week rotations.
A buddy of mine that just stepped into another job......with a few more TQs than me......accepted a wage of $24,000/ month.....yes, per month....

Yesterday was the boy's last day of school.

4th and 6th grade, now. I'm with ya, Bret. They grow up so dang fast. We're already into girlfriends and break-ups.


I've been hopping like a one-legged man in an ass kicking competition, but at least my guys are getting home at a reasonable time.

WOW!!!!

I remember how grown up I felt when I was ready to start "junior high."

I remember the terror of being a skinny nerdy kid going to one of the roughest White Junior High Schools in Baltimore City (Yes, schools were still described as Black or White schools, even though desegregation had occurred a few years before). It didn't help that I had a girl's name.

In the first quarter of the Seventh Grade, I was on the school's Excellence roll and got depantsed and beat up a couple of times. The second quarter, I was still on the honor roll but only got harrassed a lot. The third quarter, I failed two subjects and beat up my kid....a guy twice my size who took it well and considered me a compadre afterward. The rest of life has been a bit of a sometimes bizarre blur.

Funny though, I still haven't hit that point of feeling grown up
