Now that I think of it, the total lack of direction in my career with this company has me really frustrated. There is no clear or defined path to advancement here. Do they expect me to just hang around forever, waiting like a salivating dog for a bone?

I'm ready to make moves, and I have a family to support. I'm trying to support them the best way that I can and increase my earnings.

Not to mention I'm still trapped in this godforsaken state for another two years. I'd love nothing more than to move back home and get into one of the OEM shops, where they do more than play around with little rooftop units on old buildings that have been butchered and bastardised for decades.

    Sorry for the rant.

How long have you been at your company?

I hate to say it, but it is the truth. Time and experience are the keys to career advancement, not being in the "in" club. Either that, or the "in" club that you are referring to are they guys who have put their time in and gotten the needed experience.

I've put 15 years in and am just now starting to climb the advancement ladder.

Well, I don't care much about getting anything except wrench time on new equipment. That is what will bring the $$$, even if it's not tomorrow, next week, month, etc...

If only I knew that I was actually going somewhere, instead of spinning my wheels and wasting my best years with some lame@$$ shop...

Been there 3 years, btw. I made my ambition very clear when I walked in the door, and have continued to pass it along that I am hungry and ready to go. I think my track record so far reflects this.

I don't want to hijack the thread and turn this into a "please cup my balls and tell me it'll be okay" type of thing, so I'll stop there...

Steady money comes with being able to fix anything from the newest, slickest piece of shiny equipment to the ratty, grease covered POS in the back corner of the kitchen.

If you can do that, your kids will always eat.

You have found a great resource with a LOT of very knowledgeable people who are willing to help you with anything you run into.

Not trying to knock you in any way, but at 3 years, you are still figuring out WTF is going on around you. I don't know you nor do I know your situation, but I've seen a lot of young guys come and go, and 3 years is a good start.

    ...and I won't cup ANYTHING!

jp, I'm actually a semi-regular with about a thousand posts just posting under a different name so I can vent and have some laughs without worrying about prying eyes.

To moderators: I'm not a troll, just would like to discuss certain things freely without having to worry about jeopardizing my [dead-end] job.
