FYI
We got a quote from Sears. It was a salesman and all he knew was the talking points. I asked him about dual fuel and few other non-tech questions and he blew him away.
He showed me the quote and it was significantly higher than: 16 SEER Trane and 18 SEER Amana. Best he could do was a 14 SEER Kenmore (Carrier)
I told him the the ductwork would have to be replaced (per two other estimates) and he said, "oh.......uh.....that'll be about an extra xxxx to xxxx"
He saw the expression (or lack of it) on my face and asked if Sears stood a chance. I said nope, not w/those answers.
He was nice and understood.
He drove from Memphis to Tupelo for a 20 min presentation then back, in the rain. Sucked for him.Last edited by beenthere; 03-03-2009 at 06:33 AM. Reason: Removed price

Beware of Sears
Sears charges its contractors a set fee and have to work it off and they will hire any contractor which usually are hurting for money and will cut corners. You will paying your card off from your grave. God forbid when something goes wrong, you will get a two week, at the least, wait period for service from an underpaid overworked worker who needs to make a quota, deny warranty parts and try to sell you something. I had the misfortune of working for them for 6 mo. during HVAC school and it was only for an field OJT class. Now I have several customers which pay me to fix their mess while they wait for the Sears Tech to come by and deny them their warranty/parts.
