Could you have turned the furnace 90 degrees drop the return on one side?

I haven't checked the G7 line specifically, but most manufacturers require return on more than just one side for a 5 ton drive.
Bottom return is good as-is, but usually either both sides or side and back is called out to get the air around to the second side of the blower.

Havent seen wash EAC's since I left Indy,some 31 years ago.Like the spaceguards and Air bears now . Since they do a better job of air cleaning any way!

Ran out of fingers to count them on

Top is Maytag
Next is Westinghouse, Frigidaire, Tappan, NuTone (Noland) and Broan (RE Michel)
Then comes Philco & Kelvinator
Then comes Gibson
But then there's the MH brands Intertherm & Miller. Plus some other private label stuff. Comfort Range is sold to apartments. Mammoth is the commercial line...
