    refrigeration digital controller

So these small rectangular dixell controllers are becoming very popular. Several manufactures make them. Emerson/Dixell has a universal one with 2 sensors m#xr60cx. They come 120v or 230v. Anyways my point is I have a walk in cooler change out job coming up. The customer currently has a mechanical thermostat. With the new system I was planning to go with a digital thermostat. Then I figured hmm I can put in this controller and even add defrost periods if needs. The controller is only about $40 more. But I am worried about long term reliability. I have seen these controllers fail but usually its the contacts burn up from controlling fractional horse power compressors and defrost heaters. In my situation the controller will only be controlling a solenoid valve. Not much load on the controller. Have any of you installed on in a walk in box yet? If so how long has it been running so far?

Hell ya... KE2 wit Defrost is way to go. They are very good controllers. I have installed alot of them this past year. Those Dixell controller I see them alot on small reach-in coolers. They usually go bad also on those coolers.

You can also use a emerson 16E09-101 but that doesn't have defrost.

I personally have installed about 10 on different walk in coolers, without any failures. Installed one on an under counter freezer, inside the freezer, failed in 1 week.

Do you have a picture of how they are mounted on the evap? Does it have some sort of housing to go with the evap or something ?

I cut a square hole in the side face. That's the part that isn't fun.

I would worry about putting a Dixell in the chilled environment.

    I'm sure it isn't ! I think that's why I would use the KE2.

Are you a salesman for ke2 therm?

J/k. It looks like a nice product. I never had to work on one in the field. Also I never even seen one in my area. I think my distributor will have to order it.

Thanks for the recommendation on the constant cut in thermostat. I will see which way I go when it comes time to change it out. A walk in cooler is basically a big reach in cooler. I know the constant cut in will work. Just seems weird. It’s a mental thing. But honestly it’s simple and reliable.

Thanks for the reply. I believe you posted a few pictures of one you installed a while ago. I think I emailed you asking if it’s still holding up today. But never heard back from you. I could be wrong I would have to fine the post. That is good to know.

Kinda difficult at first to program and understand but Johnson Controls makes the a419/a421 digital thermostat you may want to look at. I don't believe it does defrosts though.
